Then Joshua tore his clothes and fell facedown to the ground before the ark of the Lord, remaining there till evening. The elders of Israel did the same, and sprinkled dust on their heads.

Joshua and the elders of Israel became sad. Joshua tore his clothes. He fell in front of the ark of the Lord with his face to the ground. He remained there until evening. The elders did the same thing. They also sprinkled dust on their heads.

Then Joshua tore his clothes and fell to the earth on his face before the ark of the Lord until the evening, he and the elders of Israel. And they put dust on their heads.

他們從遠處舉目觀望，竟認不出他來，就放聲大哭，各自撕裂外袍，向天揚起塵土，落在自己頭上。

他們又把塵土撒在自己頭上，痛哭悲哀，喊著說：‘有禍了！有禍了！這大城啊！凡是有船航行海上的，都因這城的財寶發了財；一時之間她竟成了荒場！’

巴拿巴和保羅兩個使徒聽見了，就撕裂衣服，跳進群眾中間，喊著說：

末底改知道了發生的一切事，就撕裂自己的衣服，披上麻衣，撒上灰塵，出到城中，大聲痛哭地呼叫。

事前，以色列人上伯特利去，在耶和華面前哀哭直到晚上，然後求問耶和華，說：“我們再去與我們的兄弟便雅憫人交戰，可以不可以？”耶和華說：“你們可以上去攻打他們。”

摩西和亞倫就俯伏在地，說：“神啊，萬人之靈的神啊，一人犯罪，你就要向全體會眾發怒嗎？”

有一個便雅憫人跑離戰場，衣服撕裂，頭蒙塵土，當天來到示羅。

大衛為那孩子懇求神，並且禁食。他進房裡去，終夜躺在地上。

以色列眾人，就是全體人民，又上到伯特利，坐在耶和華面前哀哭，那日禁食直到晚上，然後在耶和華面前獻上燔祭和平安祭。

“你們要離開這會眾，我好在眨眼間把他們消滅。”他們二人就俯伏在地。

我一聽見這事，就撕裂我的衣服和外袍，拔掉頭上的頭髮和鬍鬚，驚懼地坐著。所有因著以色列神針對被擄歸回的人之不忠、對他們所說的話而戰兢的人，都聚集到我面前。我驚懼地坐著，直到獻晚祭的時候。“獻晚祭的時候，我在禁食中起來，穿著撕裂了的衣服和外袍，雙膝跪下，向耶和華我的神張開雙手，

他們為了掃羅、他的兒子約拿單、耶和華的子民和以色列家的緣故悲哀、哭泣、禁食直到晚上，因為他們已經倒斃在刀下。
