他便對王說：『永恆主這麼說：「因為你將我要殺滅歸神的人從你手中放走，故此你的性命就必須代替他的性命，你的人民就必須代替他的人民。」』

他們回答約書亞說：『因為有人確實告訴你僕人說永恆主你的上帝曾經吩咐他僕人摩西、把這遍地賜給你們，並把這地所有的居民都從你們面前消滅掉，故此我們為了你們的緣故、很怕喪命，就行了這事了。現在你看，我們都在你手中；你看怎樣處置我們為好為對，就怎樣行好啦。』

永恆主你的上帝將他們交在你面前去擊敗的時候，你務要把他們都盡行殺滅歸神；不可和他們立約，也不可恩待他們。不可和他們結親；不可將你的女兒嫁給他們的兒子，也不可使你的兒子娶他們的女兒。

那時我們攻取了他所有的城市，將一切有男丁的城市、連女人帶小孩、都盡行毁滅歸神，連一個殘存的人也沒有留下；

只是永恆主你的上帝所賜給你以為業的這些別族之民的城市中、凡有氣息的、一個你也不要讓他活着；只要將他們盡行殺滅歸神，將赫人、亞摩利人、迦南人、比利洗人、希未人、耶布斯人、都殺滅淨盡，照永恆主你的上帝所吩咐你的，

活活捉住亞瑪力王亞甲，把亞瑪力的眾民都用刀殺滅歸神。

永恆主差遣了你走一條路，說：「你去將那些犯罪者亞瑪力人盡行殺滅歸神，攻打他們，直到他們滅盡。」你為甚麼沒有聽永恆主的聽音，急於攫取掠得物，而行永恆主所看為壞的事呢？』

這些城所有被掠之物和牲口。以色列人都劫為己有；只是所有的人他們都用刀擊殺，直到把他們消滅掉為止；凡有氣息的沒有剩下一個。

現在你要去擊打亞瑪力，將他們所有的盡行毁滅歸神，不要顧惜他們；無論是男人或女人、是孩童或喫奶的、是牛或羊、是駱駝或驢、都要殺死。」』

永恆主你的上帝所交給你的別族之民、你要把他們除滅掉；你的眼不可顧惜他們；你也不可事奉他們的神，因為這會餌誘你入於網羅。
