Now this is why he did so: All those who came out of Egypt— all the men of military age— died in the wilderness on the way after leaving Egypt.

從離開加低斯‧巴尼亞到渡過撒烈溪，這段時期共三十八年，直到這一代的戰士都從營中滅盡，正如耶和華向他們所起的誓。

這些人雖然都看過我的榮耀和我在埃及與曠野所行的神蹟，仍然這十次試探我，不聽從我的話，

神向誰發怒四十年之久呢？豈不是那些犯罪而陳屍在曠野的人嗎？他向誰起誓，不容他們進入他的安息呢？豈不是向那些不信從的人嗎？這樣看來，他們不能進入安息是因為不信的緣故了。
