For look, the kings assemble; they advance together.As soon as they see, they are shocked; they are terrified, they quickly retreat.Look at them shake uncontrollably, like a woman writhing in childbirth.

They will stand a long way off because they are afraid of her torment, and will say,“ Woe, woe, O great city, Babylon the powerful city! For in a single hour your doom has come!”

For Israel’s sake I destroyed the Amorites. They were as tall as cedars and as strong as oaks, but I destroyed the fruit on their branches and their roots in the ground.

So the king summoned the Gibeonites and spoke with them.( Now the Gibeonites were not descendants of Israel; they were a remnant of the Amorites. The Israelites had made a promise to them, but Saul tried to kill them because of his zeal for the people of Israel and Judah.)

The LORD turned them over to King Jabin of Canaan, who ruled in Hazor. The general of his army was Sisera, who lived in Harosheth Haggoyim.

In the morning, when Nabal was sober, his wife told him about these matters. He had a stroke and was paralyzed.

Then all the color drained from the king’s face and he became alarmed. The joints of his hips gave way, and his knees began knocking together.

The nations will hear and tremble; anguish will seize the inhabitants of Philistia.Then the chiefs of Edom will be terrified, trembling will seize the leaders of Moab, and the inhabitants of Canaan will shake.

Since the LORD God of Israel has driven out the Amorites before his people Israel, do you think you can just take it from them?

After Joshua died, the Israelites asked the LORD,“ Who should lead the invasion against the Canaanites and launch the attack?”

Canaan was the father of Sidon his firstborn, Heth,the Jebusites, Amorites, Girgashites,Hivites, Arkites, Sinites,Arvadites, Zemarites, and Hamathites. If you have no desire to worship the LORD, choose today whom you will worship, whether it be the gods whom your ancestors worshiped beyond the Euphrates, or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you are living. But I and my family will worship the LORD!”

When they ask you,‘ Why are you groaning?’ you will reply,‘ Because of the report that has come. Every heart will melt with fear and every hand will be limp; everyone will faint and every knee will be wet with urine.’ Pay attention– it is coming and it will happen, declares the sovereign LORD.”

The whole hill country will be yours; though it is a forest, you can clear it and it will be entirely yours. You can conquer the Canaanites, though they have chariots with iron-rimmed wheels and are strong.”

Now when these things had been completed, the leaders approached me and said,“ The people of Israel, the priests, and the Levites have not separated themselves from the local residents who practice detestable things similar to those of the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Perizzites, the Jebusites, the Ammonites, the Moabites, the Egyptians, and the Amorites.

Wail, for the LORD’s day of judgment is near; it comes with all the destructive power of the sovereign judge.For this reason all hands hang limp, every human heart loses its courage.They panic– cramps and pain seize hold of them like those of a woman who is straining to give birth. That day the LORD made a covenant with Abram:“ To your descendants I give this land, from the river of Egypt to the great river, the Euphrates River–the land of the Kenites, Kenizzites, Kadmonites,Hittites, Perizzites, Rephaites,Amorites, Canaanites, Girgashites, and Jebusites.”

As one who is above your brothers, I give to you the mountain slope, which I took from the Amorites with my sword and my bow.”

Abram traveled through the land as far as the oak tree of Moreh at Shechem.( At that time the Canaanites were in the land.)

These were the nations: the five lords of the Philistines, all the Canaanites, the Sidonians, and the Hivites living in Mount Lebanon, from Mount Baal Hermon to Lebo-Hamath.

But the men of Manasseh were unable to conquer these cities; the Canaanites managed to remain in those areas.
