So the Israelites sent Phinehas son of Eleazar, the priest, to the land of Gilead— to Reuben, Gad and the half-tribe of Manasseh.

The Israelites sent Phinehas the priest to the land of Gilead. Phinehas was the son of Eleazar. They sent him to the tribes of Reuben and Gad and half of the tribe of Manasseh.

Then the people of Israel sent to the people of Reuben and the people of Gad and the half-tribe of Manasseh, in the land of Gilead, Phinehas the son of Eleazar the priest,

First, however, they sent a delegation led by Phinehas son of Eleazar, the priest, to talk with the tribes of Reuben, Gad, and the half tribe of Manasseh.

亞倫祭司的孫子，以利亞撒的兒子非尼哈看見了，就從會眾中起來，手裏拿着槍，

亞倫的兒子以利亞撒娶了普鐵的一個女兒為妻，她為他生了非尼哈。這是利未人按着家族的族長。

那時，非尼哈起而干預，瘟疫這才止息。那就算他為義，世世代代，直到永遠。

那時，亞倫的孫子，以利亞撒的兒子非尼哈侍立在約櫃前。他們說：「我可以再出去與我弟兄便雅憫人打仗嗎？還是停戰呢？」耶和華說：「你們可以上去，因為明日我必把他交在你手中。」

「若是你的弟兄得罪你，你要去，趁着只有他和你在一起的時候，指出他的錯來。他若聽你，你就贏得了你的弟兄；

「亞倫祭司的孫子，以利亞撒的兒子非尼哈，使我的憤怒轉離以色列人，因為在他們中間，他以我的妒忌為他的妒忌，使我不在妒忌中毀滅以色列人。因此，你要說：『看哪，我將我平安的約賜給他。這是他和他的後裔永遠當祭司職任的約，因他為了上帝而妒忌，他為以色列人贖罪。』」

以色列眾支派派人去，問便雅憫支派的各家說：「你們中間怎麼做了這樣的惡事呢？

計謀憑籌算立定，打仗要憑智謀。

要與鄰舍爭辯你的案情，不可洩漏他人的隱密，恐怕聽見的人責罵你，你就難以擺脫臭名。一句話說得合宜，就如金蘋果在銀網子裏。智慧人的勸戒在順從的人耳中，好像金環和金首飾。忠信的使者對那差他的人，就如收割時有冰雪的涼氣，使主人的心舒暢。

你就要調查，探聽，細心詢問。看哪，是真的，確實有這可憎的事在你中間發生，
