So the Israelites sent Phinehas son of Eleazar, the priest, to the land of Gilead— to Reuben, Gad and the half-tribe of Manasseh.

The Israelites sent Phinehas the priest to the land of Gilead. Phinehas was the son of Eleazar. They sent him to the tribes of Reuben and Gad and half of the tribe of Manasseh.

Then the people of Israel sent to the people of Reuben and the people of Gad and the half-tribe of Manasseh, in the land of Gilead, Phinehas the son of Eleazar the priest,

First, however, they sent a delegation led by Phinehas son of Eleazar, the priest, to talk with the tribes of Reuben, Gad, and the half tribe of Manasseh.

亞倫祭司的孫子、以利亞撒的兒子非尼哈看見了，便起身離開會眾，拿著矛槍，

亞倫的兒子以利亞撒與普鐵的一個女兒結婚，生了非尼哈。以上是利未各宗族的族長。

直到非尼哈起來懲罰罪人，瘟疫才停止。這就是他的義行，世代永存。

「如果你的弟兄得罪了你，你要找個機會跟他單獨在一起，指出他的錯處。如果他肯接受勸告，你就得了一位弟兄。

「亞倫祭司的孫子、以利亞撒的兒子非尼哈消了我對以色列人的怒氣。因為在會眾中他與我一樣痛恨不貞，我才沒有在烈怒中消滅他們。你告訴他，我要賜給他平安的約，使他和他的後代憑此約可以永遠做祭司，因為他為我除掉了不貞之人，為以色列人贖了罪。」

他們派人去對便雅憫各地的人說：「你們中間怎麼發生了這種邪惡的事！

集思出良策，征戰靠智謀。

遇到跟鄰舍爭訟，不可洩露其秘密，免得聽見的人辱罵你，你的惡名將永難洗刷。一句話說得合宜，就像金蘋果放在銀器裡。對受教者而言，智者的責備猶如金耳環和金飾物。忠信的使者叫主人心裡舒暢，就像夏收之時有冰雪的涼氣。
