約書亞照耶和華對摩西的指示，奪取整個地區，把土地按照支派分給以色列人作產業。於是境內國泰民安，沒有戰事了。

你們的上帝耶和華要親自帶領你們過河，在你們面前消滅那裡的各族，使你們佔領他們的土地。約書亞將做你們的首領，正如耶和華所言。耶和華要毀滅那裡的各族，像毀滅亞摩利二王西宏和噩及其國家一樣。耶和華要把他們交給你們，你們要照我的一切吩咐處置他們。

這樣說來，必定另有一個安息日為上帝的子民存留，使他們可以真正安歇。

你們的上帝耶和華將在你們前面漸漸地趕走那些民族，你們不可急速地滅盡他們，否則你們周圍的野獸會大增，危害你們。你們的上帝耶和華要將他們交給你們，使他們驚恐萬狀，直到被滅絕。祂要將他們的王交在你們手中，無人能抵擋你們，你們要毀滅他們，使他們的名字從世上絕跡。

我給你定下國界，從紅海到非利士海岸，從曠野到幼發拉底河。我要把其中所有的人都交在你手中，你要把他們全部趕出去。

要等到你們的上帝耶和華使你們的弟兄像你們一樣得到祂所賜的土地，安居以後，你們才可以回到約旦河東，在耶和華的僕人摩西分給你們的土地上定居。」

現在你們的上帝耶和華已經照祂的應許使你們的弟兄安居，你們可以回到約旦河東，到摩西賜給你們作產業的地方。

「你們要牢記耶和華的僕人摩西吩咐你們的話，他說你們的上帝耶和華要把約旦河東面的土地賜給你們，讓你們安居。

於是，呂便、迦得和瑪拿西半個支派的人便離開在迦南的示羅的以色列人，返回耶和華藉摩西分配給他們的基列。
