约书亚照耶和华对摩西的指示，夺取整个地区，把土地按照支派分给以色列人作产业。于是境内国泰民安，没有战事了。

你们的上帝耶和华要亲自带领你们过河，在你们面前消灭那里的各族，使你们占领他们的土地。约书亚将做你们的首领，正如耶和华所言。耶和华要毁灭那里的各族，像毁灭亚摩利二王西宏和噩及其国家一样。耶和华要把他们交给你们，你们要照我的一切吩咐处置他们。

这样说来，必定另有一个安息日为上帝的子民存留，使他们可以真正安歇。

你们的上帝耶和华将在你们前面渐渐地赶走那些民族，你们不可急速地灭尽他们，否则你们周围的野兽会大增，危害你们。你们的上帝耶和华要将他们交给你们，使他们惊恐万状，直到被灭绝。祂要将他们的王交在你们手中，无人能抵挡你们，你们要毁灭他们，使他们的名字从世上绝迹。

我给你定下国界，从红海到非利士海岸，从旷野到幼发拉底河。我要把其中所有的人都交在你手中，你要把他们全部赶出去。

要等到你们的上帝耶和华使你们的弟兄像你们一样得到祂所赐的土地，安居以后，你们才可以回到约旦河东，在耶和华的仆人摩西分给你们的土地上定居。”

现在你们的上帝耶和华已经照祂的应许使你们的弟兄安居，你们可以回到约旦河东，到摩西赐给你们作产业的地方。

“你们要牢记耶和华的仆人摩西吩咐你们的话，他说你们的上帝耶和华要把约旦河东面的土地赐给你们，让你们安居。

于是，吕便、迦得和玛拿西半个支派的人便离开在迦南的示罗的以色列人，返回耶和华借摩西分配给他们的基列。
