至巴蘭野之迦叠見摩西亞倫與以色列之會眾、以諸事覆之、又以其地之果示之、告摩西曰、我儕至爾所遣我往之地、其地果流乳與蜜、此其果也、但其地之居民甚強、城垣甚堅固廣大、我又見亞衲族人在彼、亞瑪力族居南地、赫人耶布斯人亞摩利人居於山、迦南人居於海濱、及沿約旦河之境、迦勒見民怨摩西、乃安撫之曰、我儕可以上取其地、必能克之、與迦勒偕往者曰、其民強於我、不可往攻之、遂毀其所窺探之地於以色列人前、曰、我所經行窺探之地傷害居民、有如吞食、在彼所見之人、身軀雄偉、又見偉丈夫亞衲族人、我儕較彼、自視如蝗、彼之視我亦如是、

摩西所遣窺探迦南地者、其名如此、嫩之子何施亞、摩西改其名為約書亞、摩西遣之往窺探迦南地、諭之曰、爾上迦南之南地、亦登山、視察其地何如、觀其居民、或強或弱、或多或寡、所居之地、或美或惡、所處之里居、或營壘、或城邑、其土地或膏腴、或瘠薄、有林木否、爾毋膽怯、當攜其地之果來、遣彼之時、正葡萄方熟之際、
