萬族之民聽見就戰抖，慘痛抓住了非利士的居民。那時以東的族系長驚惶，摩押的權貴被戰兢抓住，迦南的居民都震撼搖動：恐怖震懾襲擊了他們。永恆主啊，因你膀臂之大能力，他們竟如石頭寂然不動，等你的人民過去，等你所獲得的人民過去。

他們又對約書亞說：『永恆主把那地都交在我們手中了；並且那地所有的居民因我們的緣故都膽戰心驚呢。』

地上的君王、大官、千夫長、富戶、壯士、和一切為奴的、自主的、都藏在洞窟和山上的磐石裏；向山和磐石說：『倒在我們身上吧，把我們藏起來，好躲避坐寶座者的面目和羔羊的義怒哦。』因為他們遭上帝義怒的大日子到了，誰能站得住呢？

對他們說：『我知道永恆主已經把這地賜給你們，並且有一種懼怕你們的恐怖情緒落到我們心裏，而且這地所有的居民因你們的緣故都膽戰心驚。因為我們聽見你們出埃及的時候、永恆主怎樣使蘆葦海的水從你們面前乾了，你們又怎樣處置約但河東邊亞摩利人的兩個王、西宏和噩，就是你們所盡行毁滅歸神的。我們一聽見，都膽戰心驚；因你們的緣故、再沒有人勇氣能立得住的了；因為是永恆主你們的上帝、他在上天下地在做上帝。現在求你們指着永恆主向我起誓：我既恩待你們，你們也要恩待我父的家，並給我一個可靠的信號，來救活我的父親、母親、我的弟兄姐妹、以及一切屬於他們的，而援救我們的性命不致死亡。』

惡人所怕的必臨到他；義人所願的必蒙賜予。

地上萬族之民、見你稱為歸於永恆主名下、就必懼怕你。

約押攻打亞捫人的拉巴，攻取了王城。

只好期待着可怕的審判、與神妒的烈火，就是將要吞滅對敵的。

看哪，列王會集攏來，一同向這裏進軍。他們一看見，就大喫一驚，驚惶失措，慌慌張張逃跑。在那裏戰兢抓住了他們；他們掙扎難過、像產難的婦人一樣。

那麼我、我當你們遭難時、也必發笑，當恐懼臨到你們時，我也必嗤笑；恐懼臨到你們、好像狂風，災難來到、如同風暴；艱難困苦臨到你們身上：

掉在永活的上帝手裏、真是可怕呀！
