Then the sailors said to each other,“ Come, let us cast lots to find out who is responsible for this calamity.” They cast lots and the lot fell on Jonah.

Here is what the sailors said to one another.“ Someone is to blame for getting us into all this trouble. Come. Let’s cast lots to find out who it is.” So they did. And Jonah was picked.

Then the crew cast lots to see which of them had offended the gods and caused the terrible storm. When they did this, the lots identified Jonah as the culprit.

You cannot stand before your enemies until you take away the devoted things from among you.”In the morning therefore you shall be brought near by your tribes. And the tribe that the Lord takes by lot shall come near by clans. And the clan that the Lord takes shall come near by households. And the household that the Lord takes shall come near man by man.And he who is taken with the devoted things shall be burned with fire, he and all that he has, because he has transgressed the covenant of the Lord, and because he has done an outrageous thing in Israel.’”So Joshua rose early in the morning and brought Israel near tribe by tribe, and the tribe of Judah was taken.And he brought near the clans of Judah, and the clan of the Zerahites was taken. And he brought near the clan of the Zerahites man by man, and Zabdi was taken.And he brought near his household man by man, and Achan the son of Carmi, son of Zabdi, son of Zerah, of the tribe of Judah, was taken.

Everyone helps his neighbor and says to his brother,“ Be strong!”The craftsman strengthens the goldsmith, and he who smooths with the hammer him who strikes the anvil, saying of the soldering,“ It is good”; and they strengthen it with nails so that it cannot be moved.

The Lord said to Joshua,“ Get up! Why have you fallen on your face?

Therefore Saul said,“ O Lord God of Israel, why have you not answered your servant this day? If this guilt is in me or in Jonathan my son, O Lord, God of Israel, give Urim. But if this guilt is in your people Israel, give Thummim.” And Jonathan and Saul were taken, but the people escaped.Then Saul said,“ Cast the lot between me and my son Jonathan.” And Jonathan was taken.

Then Samuel brought all the tribes of Israel near, and the tribe of Benjamin was taken by lot.He brought the tribe of Benjamin near by its clans, and the clan of the Matrites was taken by lot; and Saul the son of Kish was taken by lot. But when they sought him, he could not be found.

The lot is cast into the lap, but its every decision is from the Lord.

But if you will not do so, behold, you have sinned against the Lord, and be sure your sin will find you out.

And when they had crucified him, they divided his garments among them by casting lots.

Therefore do not pronounce judgment before the time, before the Lord comes, who will bring to light the things now hidden in darkness and will disclose the purposes of the heart. Then each one will receive his commendation from God.

And after destroying seven nations in the land of Canaan, he gave them their land as an inheritance.

When Gideon came, behold, a man was telling a dream to his comrade. And he said,“ Behold, I dreamed a dream, and behold, a cake of barley bread tumbled into the camp of Midian and came to the tent and struck it so that it fell and turned it upside down, so that the tent lay flat.”And his comrade answered,“ This is no other than the sword of Gideon the son of Joash, a man of Israel; God has given into his hand Midian and all the camp.”

And they put forward two, Joseph called Barsabbas, who was also called Justus, and Matthias.And they prayed and said,“ You, Lord, who know the hearts of all, show which one of these two you have chosento take the place in this ministry and apostleship from which Judas turned aside to go to his own place.”And they cast lots for them, and the lot fell on Matthias, and he was numbered with the eleven apostles.

But now this is what we will do to Gibeah: we will go up against it by lot,and we will take ten men of a hundred throughout all the tribes of Israel, and a hundred of a thousand, and a thousand of ten thousand, to bring provisions for the people, that when they come they may repay Gibeah of Benjamin for all the outrage that they have committed in Israel.”

And Saul said,“ Come here, all you leaders of the people, and know and see how this sin has arisen today.For as the Lord lives who saves Israel, though it be in Jonathan my son, he shall surely die.” But there was not a man among all the people who answered him.

Only do not rebel against the Lord or make us as rebels by building for yourselves an altar other than the altar of the Lord our God.Did not Achan the son of Zerah break faith in the matter of the devoted things, and wrath fell upon all the congregation of Israel? And he did not perish alone for his iniquity.’”
