水手们非常害怕，纷纷呼求自己的神，又把船上的货物全都抛进海里，以减轻重量。这时候，约拿已下到底舱，躺在那里呼呼大睡。

All the sailors were afraid and each cried out to his own god. And they threw the cargo into the sea to lighten the ship. But Jonah had gone below deck, where he lay down and fell into a deep sleep.

Then the mariners were afraid, and each cried out to his god. And they hurled the cargo that was in the ship into the sea to lighten it for them. But Jonah had gone down into the inner part of the ship and had lain down and was fast asleep.

Fearing for their lives, the desperate sailors shouted to their gods for help and threw the cargo overboard to lighten the ship. But all this time Jonah was sound asleep down in the hold.

他们取了公牛预备好，然后从早上到正午不断地呼求：“巴力啊，求你应允我们！”可是毫无动静。他们又绕着自己筑的祭坛跳个不停。

第二天，风浪依然猛烈，他们开始把货物抛进海里。第三天，他们又亲手把船上的用具也抛掉了。

但是为了基督，我从前以为有价值的，现在认为毫无价值。不但如此，我看万事都毫无价值，因为认识我主基督耶稣最宝贵。我为祂失去了一切，我把失去的一切视为垃圾，好得到基督，

耶稣回到三个门徒那里，见他们都睡着了，就对彼得说：“难道你们不能跟我一同警醒一时吗？你们要警醒祷告，免得陷入诱惑。你们的心灵虽然愿意，肉体却很软弱。”

他们没有真心呼求我，只是在床上哭号。他们为求五谷和新酒而割伤自己，却背弃了我。

吃饱了以后，为了要减轻船的重量，他们把麦子抛进海里。

“列国的流亡者啊，你们要聚集到这里来。那些抬着木头神像、向不能救人的神明祷告的人真愚昧！

然后，祂回到门徒那里，对他们说：“你们还在睡觉，还在休息吗？看啊！时候到了，人子要被出卖，交在罪人手里了。

祂回来时见他们又睡着了，因为他们困得眼皮发沉。

新郎迟迟未到，她们等得困倦，便打盹睡着了。

祂祷告完后，便起身回到门徒那里，看见他们因忧愁而疲惫地睡着了，就说：“你们为什么睡觉呢？要起来祷告，以免陷入诱惑！”

众人都极其敬畏耶和华，向祂献祭，并且许愿。

你们为自己造的神明在哪里呢？危难时让他们救你们吧！“犹大人啊，你们神明的数目与你们的城邑一样多！

船长来到约拿身边对他说：“你这个人，怎么这时候还在睡觉！快起来祈求你的神吧，也许你的神会怜悯我们，饶我们一命。”

撒旦回答说：“人会以皮换皮，为了保全生命，情愿舍弃一切。

他用另一半木头造了一个神，一个偶像，向它俯伏叩拜、祷告说：“你是我的神明，求你拯救我。”他们愚昧无知，因为眼睛被封住以致看不见，心窍被塞住以致不明白。他们无人思想，无人明白，无人醒悟说：“我用一半木头当柴烤饼、烤肉吃，我岂能用另一半木头造可憎的神像？我岂能向一块木头叩拜？”他们以灰为食，心智迷糊，走入歧途，不能自救，也不会说：“我右手拿的神像不是假的吗？”

他们来到路旁的一处羊圈，那里有一个山洞，扫罗进去大解。大卫和他的部下就躲在洞的深处。

大利拉哄参孙枕着她的腿睡觉，然后叫人来剃掉他的七根发辫，使他力气尽失，无力反抗。

他们只好呼求耶和华，说：“耶和华啊，求你不要因这个人的性命而毁灭我们，不要因我们杀害无辜的人而怪罪我们，因为你耶和华按自己的旨意行事。”
