All the men of Judah were standing before the LORD, along with their infants, wives, and children.

He said to them:“ Listen to me, you Levites! Now consecrate yourselves, so you can consecrate the temple of the LORD God of your ancestors! Remove from the sanctuary what is ceremonially unclean!

Let the priests also, who approach the LORD, sanctify themselves, lest the LORD break through against them.”

He replied,“ Yes, in peace. I have come to sacrifice to the LORD. Consecrate yourselves and come with me to the sacrifice.” So he consecrated Jesse and his sons and invited them to the sacrifice.

The LORD said to Moses,“ Go to the people and sanctify them today and tomorrow, and make them wash their clothes

When the days of their feasting were finished, Job would send for them and sanctify them; he would get up early in the morning and offer burnt offerings according to the number of them all. For Job thought,“ Perhaps my children have sinned and cursed God in their hearts.” This was Job’s customary practice.

On that day the lamentation in Jerusalem will be as great as the lamentation at Hadad-Rimmon in the plain of Megiddo.The land will mourn, clan by clan– the clan of the royal household of David by itself and their wives by themselves; the clan of the family of Nathan by itself and their wives by themselves;the clan of the descendants of Levi by itself and their wives by themselves; and the clan of the Shimeites by itself and their wives by themselves–all the clans that remain, each separately with their wives.”

Get up! Ritually consecrate the people and tell them this:‘ Ritually consecrate yourselves for tomorrow, because the LORD God of Israel says,“ You are contaminated, O Israel! You will not be able to stand before your enemies until you remove what is contaminating you.”

Like a bridegroom it emerges from its chamber; like a strong man it enjoys running its course.

Announce a holy fast; proclaim a sacred assembly. Gather the elders and all the inhabitants of the land to the temple of the LORD your God, and cry out to the LORD.

He issued a proclamation and said,“ In Nineveh, by the decree of the king and his nobles: No human or animal, cattle or sheep, is to taste anything; they must not eat and they must not drink water.Every person and animal must put on sackcloth and must cry earnestly to God, and everyone must turn from their evil way of living and from the violence that they do.

Jesus said to them,“ The wedding guests cannot mourn while the bridegroom is with them, can they? But the days are coming when the bridegroom will be taken from them, and then they will fast.

You are standing today, all of you, before the LORD your God– the heads of your tribes, your elders, your officials, every Israelite man,your infants, your wives, and the foreigners living in your encampment, those who chop wood and those who carry water–

Slaughter the Passover lambs, consecrate yourselves, and make preparations for your countrymen to do what the LORD commanded through Moses.”

everyone who has determined to follow God, the LORD God of his ancestors, even if he is not ceremonially clean according to the standards of the temple.”

Finally they brought the goats for the sin offering before the king and the assembly, and they placed their hands on them.Then the priests slaughtered them. They offered their blood as a sin offering on the altar to make atonement for all Israel, because the king had decreed that the burnt sacrifice and sin offering were for all Israel.
