For[ he is] not a man, as I[ am, that] I should answer him,[ and] we should come together in judgment.

“ He is not a mere mortal like me that I might answer him, that we might confront each other in court.

“ God isn’t a mere human being like me. I can’t answer him. We can’t take each other to court.

For he is not a man, as I am, that I might answer him, that we should come to trial together.

And enter not into judgment with thy servant: for in thy sight shall no man living be justified.

God[ is] not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do[ it]? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good?

Oh that I knew where I might find him![ that] I might come[ even] to his seat!I would order[ my] cause before him, and fill my mouth with arguments.I would know the words[ which] he would answer me, and understand what he would say unto me.Will he plead against me with[ his] great power? No; but he would put[ strength] in me.There the righteous might dispute with him; so should I be delivered for ever from my judge.

Behold, he shall come up like a lion from the swelling of Jordan against the habitation of the strong: but I will suddenly make him run away from her: and who[ is] a chosen[ man, that] I may appoint over her? for who[ is] like me? and who will appoint me the time? and who[ is] that shepherd that will stand before me?

Behold,[ in] this thou art not just: I will answer thee, that God is greater than man.

Behold now, I have ordered[ my] cause; I know that I shall be justified.Who[ is] he[ that] will plead with me? for now, if I hold my tongue, I shall give up the ghost.Only do not two[ things] unto me: then will I not hide myself from thee.Withdraw thine hand far from me: and let not thy dread make me afraid.Then call thou, and I will answer: or let me speak, and answer thou me.How many[ are] mine iniquities and sins? make me to know my transgression and my sin.

For if our heart condemn us, God is greater than our heart, and knoweth all things.

Woe unto him that striveth with his Maker![ Let] the potsherd[ strive] with the potsherds of the earth. Shall the clay say to him that fashioneth it, What makest thou? or thy work, He hath no hands?

Look unto the heavens, and see; and behold the clouds[ which] are higher than thou.If thou sinnest, what doest thou against him? or[ if] thy transgressions be multiplied, what doest thou unto him?If thou be righteous, what givest thou him? or what receiveth he of thine hand?

But the LORD said unto Samuel, Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have refused him: for[ the LORD seeth] not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the LORD looketh on the heart.
