He wants to stop them from going down into the grave. He doesn’t want them to be killed by swords.

Don’t you see how wonderfully kind, tolerant, and patient God is with you? Does this mean nothing to you? Can’t you see that his kindness is intended to turn you from your sin?

They dare not go out into the darkness for fear they will be murdered.

God rescued me from the grave, and now my life is filled with light.’

The Lord isn’t really being slow about his promise, as some people think. No, he is being patient for your sake. He does not want anyone to be destroyed, but wants everyone to repent.

And remember, our Lord’s patience gives people time to be saved. This is what our beloved brother Paul also wrote to you with the wisdom God gave him—

The jailer woke up to see the prison doors wide open. He assumed the prisoners had escaped, so he drew his sword to kill himself.But Paul shouted to him,“ Stop! Don’t kill yourself! We are all here!”The jailer called for lights and ran to the dungeon and fell down trembling before Paul and Silas.Then he brought them out and asked,“ Sirs, what must I do to be saved?”They replied,“ Believe in the Lord Jesus and you will be saved, along with everyone in your household.”And they shared the word of the Lord with him and with all who lived in his household.Even at that hour of the night, the jailer cared for them and washed their wounds. Then he and everyone in his household were immediately baptized.

he will be gracious and say,‘ Rescue him from the grave, for I have found a ransom for his life.’

He rescues them from the grave so they may enjoy the light of life.

They are at death’s door; the angels of death wait for them.
