“ I haven’t said no to what poor people have wanted. I haven’t let widows lose their hope.

“我若不容贫寒人得其所愿，或叫寡妇眼中失望，

“我若不让贫寒人遂其所愿，或是叫寡妇眼中失望，

“我若不让贫寒人遂其所愿，或是叫寡妇眼中失望，

我何曾拒绝穷人的请求，或使寡妇眼露失望之情，

我若不给穷人所要的，或使寡妇的眼所期待的落空；

我若不容貧寒人得其所願，或叫寡婦眼中失望，

「我若不讓貧寒人遂其所願，或是叫寡婦眼中失望，

「我若不讓貧寒人遂其所願，或是叫寡婦眼中失望，

我何曾拒絕窮人的請求，或使寡婦眼露失望之情，

我若不給窮人所要的，或使寡婦的眼所期待的落空；

我若將貧寒人所願望的留住不給，或是讓寡婦的眼渴望到失明，

我若禁貧者得其所願、使嫠婦之目失望、

貧者所欲我施之、嫠者所望我遂之。

何曾使貧者不得所願、使嫠婦不得所望、

“ If I have denied the desires of the poor or let the eyes of the widow grow weary,

“ If I have withheld anything that the poor desired, or have caused the eyes of the widow to fail,

“ Have I refused to help the poor, or crushed the hopes of widows?

If I have refused the wishes of the poor or let the widow’s eyes go blind,

“ If I have kept the poor from their desire, Or have caused the eyes of the widow to fail,

“ If I have kept the poor from their desire, Or caused the eyes of the widow to fail,

If I have withheld the poor from their desire, Or have caused the eyes of the widow to fail,

If I have refused the wishes of the poor or let the widow’s eyes go blind,

If I have withheld the poor from[ their] desire, or have caused the eyes of the widow to fail;

If I have refused to give the poor what they desired, or caused the eyes of the widow to fail,

“ If I have withheld the poor from their desire, or have caused the eyes of the widow to fail,

They asked only one thing. They wanted us to continue to remember poor people. That was what I had wanted to do all along.

They’ve crushed poor people and left them with nothing. They’ve taken over houses they didn’t even build.

I cried softly like a weak little bird. I sounded like a dove as I mourned. My eyes grew tired as I looked up toward heaven. Lord, my life is in danger. Please come and help me!

And that’s not all. Our eyes grew tired. We looked for help that never came. We watched from our towers. We kept looking for a nation that couldn’t save us.

They have spread their gifts around to poor people. Their good works continue forever. They will be powerful and honored.

The believers decided to provide help for the brothers and sisters living in Judea. All of them helped as much as they could.

Your children will be given to another nation. Day after day you will watch for them to come back. But you will only wear out your eyes. You won’t be able to help your children.

I’m worn out from calling for help. My throat is very dry. My eyes grow tired looking for my God.

My eyes grow tired as I look to you to save me. Please save me as you have promised.

You didn’t give any water to people who were tired. You held food back from those who were hungry.You did it even though you were honored and powerful. You owned land and lived on it.But you sent widows away without anything. You mistreated children whose fathers had died.

My eyes grow tired looking for what you have promised. I say,“ When will you comfort me?”

Even dogs came and licked his sores. All he wanted was to eat what fell from the rich man’s table.

Suppose someone is poor among you. And suppose they live in one of the towns in the land the Lord your God is giving you. Then don’t be mean to them. They are poor. So don’t hold back money from them.Instead, open your hands and lend them what they need. Do it freely.Be careful not to have an evil thought in your mind. Don’t say to yourself,“ The seventh year will soon be here. It’s the year for forgiving people what they owe.” If you think like that, you might treat the needy people among you badly. You might not give them anything. Then they might make their appeal to the Lord against you. And he will find you guilty of sin.So give freely to needy people. Let your heart be tender toward them. Then the Lord your God will bless you in all your work. He will bless you in everything you do.

So poor people have hope. And God shuts the mouths of those who don’t treat others fairly.
