我若不给穷人所要的，或使寡妇的眼所期待的落空；

我若將貧寒人所願望的留住不給，或是讓寡婦的眼渴望到失明，

我若禁貧者得其所願、使嫠婦之目失望、

貧者所欲我施之、嫠者所望我遂之。

何曾使貧者不得所願、使嫠婦不得所望、

“ If I have denied the desires of the poor or let the eyes of the widow grow weary,

“ I haven’t said no to what poor people have wanted. I haven’t let widows lose their hope.

“ If I have withheld anything that the poor desired, or have caused the eyes of the widow to fail,

“ Have I refused to help the poor, or crushed the hopes of widows?

If I have refused the wishes of the poor or let the widow’s eyes go blind,

“ If I have kept the poor from their desire, Or have caused the eyes of the widow to fail,

“ If I have kept the poor from their desire, Or caused the eyes of the widow to fail,

If I have withheld the poor from their desire, Or have caused the eyes of the widow to fail,

If I have refused the wishes of the poor or let the widow’s eyes go blind,

If I have withheld the poor from[ their] desire, or have caused the eyes of the widow to fail;

If I have refused to give the poor what they desired, or caused the eyes of the widow to fail,

“ If I have withheld the poor from their desire, or have caused the eyes of the widow to fail,

All they asked was that we should continue to remember the poor, the very thing I had been eager to do all along. (niv)

For he has oppressed the poor and left them destitute; he has seized houses he did not build. (niv)

I cried like a swift or thrush, I moaned like a mourning dove. My eyes grew weak as I looked to the heavens. I am being threatened; Lord, come to my aid!” (niv)

and longing to eat what fell from the rich man’s table. Even the dogs came and licked his sores. (niv)

If anyone is poor among your fellow Israelites in any of the towns of the land the Lord your God is giving you, do not be hardhearted or tightfisted toward them.Rather, be openhanded and freely lend them whatever they need.Be careful not to harbor this wicked thought:“ The seventh year, the year for canceling debts, is near,” so that you do not show ill will toward the needy among your fellow Israelites and give them nothing. They may then appeal to the Lord against you, and you will be found guilty of sin.Give generously to them and do so without a grudging heart; then because of this the Lord your God will bless you in all your work and in everything you put your hand to. (niv)

So the poor have hope, and injustice shuts its mouth. (niv)
