I am surrounded by mockers. I watch how bitterly they taunt me.

Surely mockers surround me; my eyes must dwell on their hostility.

People who make fun of me are all around me. I’m forced to watch as they attack me with their words.

Surely there are mockers about me, and my eye dwells on their provocation.

Mockers are certainly with me, And my eye gazes on their provocation.

Are not mockers with me? And does not my eye dwell on their provocation?

So Peninnah would taunt Hannah and make fun of her because the Lord had kept her from having children.Year after year it was the same— Peninnah would taunt Hannah as they went to the Tabernacle. Each time, Hannah would be reduced to tears and would not even eat.

My friends scorn me, but I pour out my tears to God.

Yet my friends laugh at me, for I call on God and expect an answer. I am a just and blameless man, yet they laugh at me.

What will happen when he finds out what you are doing? Can you fool him as easily as you fool people?

The people passing by shouted abuse, shaking their heads in mockery.“ Look at you now!” they yelled at him.“ You said you were going to destroy the Temple and rebuild it in three days. Well then, if you are the Son of God, save yourself and come down from the cross!”The leading priests, the teachers of religious law, and the elders also mocked Jesus.“ He saved others,” they scoffed,“ but he can’t save himself! So he is the King of Israel, is he? Let him come down from the cross right now, and we will believe in him!He trusted God, so let God rescue him now if he wants him! For he said,‘ I am the Son of God.’”Even the revolutionaries who were crucified with him ridiculed him in the same way.

Those who live in the shelter of the Most High will find rest in the shadow of the Almighty.

I was sad, as though they were my friends or family, as if I were grieving for my own mother.But they are glad now that I am in trouble; they gleefully join together against me. I am attacked by people I don’t even know; they slander me constantly.They mock me and call me names; they snarl at me.

They will live in prosperity, and their children will inherit the land.
