“ Doubtless you are the only people who matter, and wisdom will die with you!

You have closed their minds to understanding, but do not let them triumph.

I thought,‘ Those who are older should speak, for wisdom comes with age.’But there is a spirit within people, the breath of the Almighty within them, that makes them intelligent.Sometimes the elders are not wise. Sometimes the aged do not understand justice.So listen to me, and let me tell you what I think.“ I have waited all this time, listening very carefully to your arguments, listening to you grope for words.I have listened, but not one of you has refuted Job or answered his arguments.And don’t tell me,‘ He is too wise for us. Only God can convince him.’

Teach me, and I will keep quiet. Show me what I have done wrong.Honest words can be painful, but what do your criticisms amount to?

I’ve had to endure your insults, but now my spirit prompts me to reply.

“ Just ask the previous generation. Pay attention to the experience of our ancestors.For we were born but yesterday and know nothing. Our days on earth are as fleeting as a shadow.But those who came before us will teach you. They will teach you the wisdom of old.

“ As for all of you, come back with a better argument, though I still won’t find a wise man among you.

What sorrow for those who are wise in their own eyes and think themselves so clever.

I am saying this to shame you. Isn’t there anyone in all the church who is wise enough to decide these issues?

If only he would tell you the secrets of wisdom, for true wisdom is not a simple matter. Listen! God is doubtless punishing you far less than you deserve!

“ A wise man wouldn’t answer with such empty talk! You are nothing but a windbag.

Our dedication to Christ makes us look like fools, but you claim to be so wise in Christ! We are weak, but you are so powerful! You are honored, but we are ridiculed.

Rich people may think they are wise, but a poor person with discernment can see right through them.

“ Shouldn’t someone answer this torrent of words? Is a person proved innocent just by a lot of talking?

An empty headed person won’t become wise any more than a wild donkey can bear a human child.
