These all died in faith without receiving the things promised, but they saw them in the distance and welcomed them and acknowledged that they were strangers and foreigners on the earth.

Because you have obeyed me, all the nations of the earth will pronounce blessings on one another using the name of your descendants.’”

They answered him,“ Abraham is our father!” Jesus replied,“ If you are Abraham’s children, you would be doing the deeds of Abraham.

For I tell you the truth, many prophets and righteous people longed to see what you see but did not see it, and to hear what you hear but did not hear it.

so then, understand that those who believe are the sons of Abraham.And the scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the Gentiles by faith, proclaimed the gospel to Abraham ahead of time, saying,“ All the nations will be blessed in you.”So then those who believe are blessed along with Abraham the believer.

For I tell you that many prophets and kings longed to see what you see but did not see it, and to hear what you hear but did not hear it.”

And these all were commended for their faith, yet they did not receive what was promised.

Concerning this salvation, the prophets who predicted the grace that would come to you searched and investigated carefully.They probed into what person or time the Spirit of Christ within them was indicating when he testified beforehand about the sufferings appointed for Christ and his subsequent glory.They were shown that they were serving not themselves but you, in regard to the things now announced to you through those who proclaimed the gospel to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven– things angels long to catch a glimpse of.

Simeon took him in his arms and blessed God, saying,“ Now, according to your word, Sovereign Lord, permit your servant to depart in peace.For my eyes have seen your salvation

I know that you are Abraham’s descendants. But you want to kill me, because my teaching makes no progress among you.
