耶穌便叫門徒來，對他們說：『我實在告訴你們，這窮寡婦所投的、比許多投入奉獻櫃的人所投的還多；

祭司長取了那銀子說：『不該把它放在禮物庫裏，因為那是血價。』

於是他們又想法子要逮他；他卻逕自從他們手裏出來了。

其中有人想要逮他，卻沒有人下手拿他。

正當那時，有幾個法利賽人上前來，對耶穌說：『你出去，從這裏往前走吧，因為希律想要殺你呢。』耶穌對他們說：『你們去告訴那個狐狸說：「你看吧，今天明天我趕鬼，完成醫務，第三天我就完了。」雖然如此，今天明天、以及後天，我總必須往前走，因為神言人在耶路撒冷之外喪命、是不被認為可能的。

耶穌回答說：『白日不是有十二個鐘頭麼？人若在白日走路，就不碰倒，因為看見這世界的光。但人若在黑夜裏走路，就會碰倒，因為沒有光在他身上。』

這四個看門主任都是利未人。他們是受託經常上班看守上帝之殿的貯藏室和府庫。

於是他們拿起石頭來、要打他；耶穌卻逕自隱藏着，出殿去了。

經學士和祭司長們想法子要就在那時候下手拿耶穌，卻懼怕民眾；他們覺得他是指着他們來說這比喻的。
