因此，猶太人彼此爭論說：「這個人怎能把他的肉給我們吃呢？」

眾人就回答他：「我們聽見律法書上說，基督是永存的；你怎麼說，人子必須被舉起來呢？這人子是誰呢？」

然而，屬血氣的人不接受神的靈的事，他反倒以這為愚拙，並且他不能了解，因為這些事惟有屬靈的人才能領悟。

猶太人因為耶穌說「我是從天上降下來的糧」，就私下議論他，

有幾個門徒彼此說：「他對我們說『不久，你們將不再見到我；再過不久，你們還要見到我』；又說『因我到父那裏去』。這是甚麼意思呢？」於是門徒說：「他說『不久』到底是甚麼意思呢？我們不明白他說甚麼。」

他的門徒中有好些人聽見了，就說：「這話很難，誰聽得進呢？」
