The Jews there were amazed and asked,“ How did this man get such learning without having been taught?”

The Jews there were amazed. They asked,“ How did this man learn so much without being taught?”

The Jews therefore marveled, saying,“ How is it that this man has learning, when he has never studied?”

The people were surprised when they heard him.“ How does he know so much when he hasn’t been trained?” they asked.

Then the Jews were amazed and said,“ How is this man so learned, since he hasn’t been trained?”

The Jews then were astonished, saying,“ How has this man become learned, not having been educated?”

And the Jews marveled, saying,“ How does this Man know letters, having never studied?”

The Jews therefore marvelled, saying, How knoweth this man letters, having never learned?

Then the Jews were amazed and said,“ How does He know the Scriptures, since He hasn’t been trained?”

And the Jews marvelled, saying, How knoweth this man letters, having never learned?

Then the Jewish leaders were astonished and said,“ How does this man know so much when he has never had formal instruction?”

The Jews therefore marveled, saying,“ How does this man know letters, having never been educated?”

All spoke well of him and were amazed at the gracious words that came from his lips.“ Isn’t this Joseph’s son?” they asked. (niv)

“ No one ever spoke the way this man does,” the guards replied. (niv)

Everyone who heard him was amazed at his understanding and his answers. (niv)

Coming to his hometown, he began teaching the people in their synagogue, and they were amazed.“ Where did this man get this wisdom and these miraculous powers?” they asked. (niv)

When they heard this, they were amazed. So they left him and went away. (niv)

Amos answered Amaziah,“ I was neither a prophet nor the son of a prophet, but I was a shepherd, and I also took care of sycamore- fig trees.But the Lord took me from tending the flock and said to me,‘ Go, prophesy to my people Israel.’ (niv)

Now this was John’s testimony when the Jewish leaders in Jerusalem sent priests and Levites to ask him who he was. (niv)

Jesus is“‘ the stone you builders rejected, which has become the cornerstone.’Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved.” (niv)

At this point Festus interrupted Paul’s defense.“ You are out of your mind, Paul!” he shouted.“ Your great learning is driving you insane.” (niv)

When the Sabbath came, he began to teach in the synagogue, and many who heard him were amazed.“ Where did this man get these things?” they asked.“ What’s this wisdom that has been given him? What are these remarkable miracles he is performing?Isn’t this the carpenter? Isn’t this Mary’s son and the brother of James, Joseph, Judas and Simon? Aren’t his sisters here with us?” And they took offense at him. (niv)

When the crowds heard this, they were astonished at his teaching. (niv)

Utterly amazed, they asked:“ Aren’t all these who are speaking Galileans?Then how is it that each of us hears them in our native language?Parthians, Medes and Elamites; residents of Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia,Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the parts of Libya near Cyrene; visitors from Rome( both Jews and converts to Judaism); Cretans and Arabs— we hear them declaring the wonders of God in our own tongues!”Amazed and perplexed, they asked one another,“ What does this mean?”Some, however, made fun of them and said,“ They have had too much wine.” (niv)

When Jesus had finished saying these things, the crowds were amazed at his teaching,because he taught as one who had authority, and not as their teachers of the law. (niv)
