But don’t be so concerned about perishable things like food. Spend your energy seeking the eternal life that the Son of Man can give you. For God the Father has given me the seal of his approval.”

Think about the things of heaven, not the things of earth.

Why spend your money on food that does not give you strength? Why pay for food that does you no good? Listen to me, and you will eat what is good. You will enjoy the finest food.

But anyone who eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise that person at the last day.

I give them eternal life, and they will never perish. No one can snatch them away from me,

For it is my Father’s will that all who see his Son and believe in him should have eternal life. I will raise them up at the last day.”

For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord.

And you know that God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power. Then Jesus went around doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with him.

For you have given him authority over everyone. He gives eternal life to each one you have given him.

For God is working in you, giving you the desire and the power to do what pleases him.

But God’s truth stands firm like a foundation stone with this inscription:“ The Lord knows those who are his,” and“ All who belong to the Lord must turn away from evil.”

I am the living bread that came down from heaven. Anyone who eats this bread will live forever; and this bread, which I will offer so the world may live, is my flesh.”

But I have a greater witness than John— my teachings and my miracles. The Father gave me these works to accomplish, and they prove that he sent me.And the Father who sent me has testified about me himself. You have never heard his voice or seen him face to face,

I am the true bread that came down from heaven. Anyone who eats this bread will not die as your ancestors did( even though they ate the manna) but will live forever.”

Tune your ears to wisdom, and concentrate on understanding.Cry out for insight, and ask for understanding.Search for them as you would for silver; seek them like hidden treasures.Then you will understand what it means to fear the Lord, and you will gain knowledge of God.For the Lord grants wisdom! From his mouth come knowledge and understanding.

Since everything around us is going to be destroyed like this, what holy and godly lives you should live,looking forward to the day of God and hurrying it along. On that day, he will set the heavens on fire, and the elements will melt away in the flames.But we are looking forward to the new heavens and new earth he has promised, a world filled with God’s righteousness.And so, dear friends, while you are waiting for these things to happen, make every effort to be found living peaceful lives that are pure and blameless in his sight.

All people spend their lives scratching for food, but they never seem to have enough.

“ Don’t store up treasures here on earth, where moths eat them and rust destroys them, and where thieves break in and steal.

For when we place our faith in Christ Jesus, there is no benefit in being circumcised or being uncircumcised. What is important is faith expressing itself in love.

when he received honor and glory from God the Father. The voice from the majestic glory of God said to him,“ This is my dearly loved Son, who brings me great joy.”

As the Scriptures say,“ People are like grass; their beauty is like a flower in the field. The grass withers and the flower fades.

Simon Peter replied,“ Lord, to whom would we go? You have the words that give eternal life.

Then I said,“ Look, I have come. As is written about me in the Scriptures:

When I discovered your words, I devoured them. They are my joy and my heart’s delight, for I bear your name, O Lord God of Heaven’s Armies.

As we pray to our God and Father about you, we think of your faithful work, your loving deeds, and the enduring hope you have because of our Lord Jesus Christ.

The king proclaims the Lord’s decree:“ The Lord said to me,‘ You are my son. Today I have become your Father.

Jesus replied,“ Anyone who drinks this water will soon become thirsty again.But those who drink the water I give will never be thirsty again. It becomes a fresh, bubbling spring within them, giving them eternal life.”

Anyone who accepts his testimony can affirm that God is true.

They replied,“ We want to perform God’s works, too. What should we do?”Jesus told them,“ This is the only work God wants from you: Believe in the one he has sent.”

Make sure that no one is immoral or godless like Esau, who traded his birthright as the firstborn son for a single meal.

That’s why I work and struggle so hard, depending on Christ’s mighty power that works within me.

and the Holy Spirit, in bodily form, descended on him like a dove. And a voice from heaven said,“ You are my dearly loved Son, and you bring me great joy.”

But even as he spoke, a bright cloud overshadowed them, and a voice from the cloud said,“ This is my dearly loved Son, who brings me great joy. Listen to him.”

Then a voice from the cloud said,“ This is my Son, my Chosen One. Listen to him.”

But let me say this, dear brothers and sisters: The time that remains is very short. So from now on, those with wives should not focus only on their marriage.Those who weep or who rejoice or who buy things should not be absorbed by their weeping or their joy or their possessions.Those who use the things of the world should not become attached to them. For this world as we know it will soon pass away.

Then a cloud overshadowed them, and a voice from the cloud said,“ This is my dearly loved Son. Listen to him.”

The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is upon me, for the Lord has anointed me to bring good news to the poor. He has sent me to comfort the brokenhearted and to proclaim that captives will be released and prisoners will be freed.He has sent me to tell those who mourn that the time of the Lord’s favor has come, and with it, the day of God’s anger against their enemies.To all who mourn in Israel, he will give a crown of beauty for ashes, a joyous blessing instead of mourning, festive praise instead of despair. In their righteousness, they will be like great oaks that the Lord has planted for his own glory.

Circumcision was a sign that Abraham already had faith and that God had already accepted him and declared him to be righteous— even before he was circumcised. So Abraham is the spiritual father of those who have faith but have not been circumcised. They are counted as righteous because of their faith.

You always hear me, but I said it out loud for the sake of all these people standing here, so that they will believe you sent me.”

The hot sun rises and the grass withers; the little flower droops and falls, and its beauty fades away. In the same way, the rich will fade away with all of their achievements.

And a voice from heaven said,“ This is my dearly loved Son, who brings me great joy.”

“ Look at my servant, whom I strengthen. He is my chosen one, who pleases me. I have put my Spirit upon him. He will bring justice to the nations.

I didn’t know he was the one, but when God sent me to baptize with water, he told me,‘ The one on whom you see the Spirit descend and rest is the one who will baptize with the Holy Spirit.’I saw this happen to Jesus, so I testify that he is the Chosen One of God.”

If I hadn’t done such miraculous signs among them that no one else could do, they would not be guilty. But as it is, they have seen everything I did, yet they still hate me and my Father.

And a voice from heaven said,“ You are my dearly loved Son, and you bring me great joy.”

I am one witness, and my Father who sent me is the other.”

Such rules are mere human teachings about things that deteriorate as we use them.

You say,“ Food was made for the stomach, and the stomach for food.”( This is true, though someday God will do away with both of them.) But you can’t say that our bodies were made for sexual immorality. They were made for the Lord, and the Lord cares about our bodies.

“ People of Israel, listen! God publicly endorsed Jesus the Nazarene by doing powerful miracles, wonders, and signs through him, as you well know.

The more you have, the more people come to help you spend it. So what good is wealth— except perhaps to watch it slip through your fingers!People who work hard sleep well, whether they eat little or much. But the rich seldom get a good night’s sleep.There is another serious problem I have seen under the sun. Hoarding riches harms the saver.Money is put into risky investments that turn sour, and everything is lost. In the end, there is nothing left to pass on to one’s children.We all come to the end of our lives as naked and empty handed as on the day we were born. We can’t take our riches with us.And this, too, is a very serious problem. People leave this world no better off than when they came. All their hard work is for nothing— like working for the wind.

Jesus told her,“ I am the resurrection and the life. Anyone who believes in me will live, even after dying.Everyone who lives in me and believes in me will never ever die. Do you believe this, Martha?”

“ So don’t worry about these things, saying,‘ What will we eat? What will we drink? What will we wear?’These things dominate the thoughts of unbelievers, but your heavenly Father already knows all your needs.Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.

“ The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, for he has anointed me to bring Good News to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim that captives will be released, that the blind will see, that the oppressed will be set free,and that the time of the Lord’s favor has come.”He rolled up the scroll, handed it back to the attendant, and sat down. All eyes in the synagogue looked at him intently.Then he began to speak to them.“ The Scripture you’ve just heard has been fulfilled this very day!”

So let us do our best to enter that rest. But if we disobey God, as the people of Israel did, we will fall.

Jesus told him,“ I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me.

Don’t believe me unless I carry out my Father’s work.But if I do his work, believe in the evidence of the miraculous works I have done, even if you don’t believe me. Then you will know and understand that the Father is in me, and I am in the Father.”

Out of the stump of David’s family will grow a shoot— yes, a new Branch bearing fruit from the old root.And the Spirit of the Lord will rest on him— the Spirit of wisdom and understanding, the Spirit of counsel and might, the Spirit of knowledge and the fear of the Lord.He will delight in obeying the Lord. He will not judge by appearance nor make a decision based on hearsay.

But Martha was distracted by the big dinner she was preparing. She came to Jesus and said,“ Lord, doesn’t it seem unfair to you that my sister just sits here while I do all the work? Tell her to come and help me.”But the Lord said to her,“ My dear Martha, you are worried and upset over all these details!There is only one thing worth being concerned about. Mary has discovered it, and it will not be taken away from her.”

Don’t you realize that in a race everyone runs, but only one person gets the prize? So run to win!All athletes are disciplined in their training. They do it to win a prize that will fade away, but we do it for an eternal prize.So I run with purpose in every step. I am not just shadowboxing.I discipline my body like an athlete, training it to do what it should. Otherwise, I fear that after preaching to others I myself might be disqualified.

Even if others think I am not an apostle, I certainly am to you. You yourselves are proof that I am the Lord’s apostle.

But Jesus replied,“ Foxes have dens to live in, and birds have nests, but the Son of Man has no place even to lay his head.”

Has not the Lord of Heaven’s Armies promised that the wealth of nations will turn to ashes? They work so hard, but all in vain!

So we don’t look at the troubles we can see now; rather, we fix our gaze on things that cannot be seen. For the things we see now will soon be gone, but the things we cannot see will last forever.
