耶穌知道他們要來強迫他作王，就獨自又退到山上去了。到了晚上，他的門徒下到海邊，上了船，要過海往迦百農去。天已經黑了，耶穌還沒有來到他們那裏。忽然狂風大作，海浪翻騰。門徒搖櫓，約行了十里多，看見耶穌在海面上走，漸漸靠近了船，他們就害怕。耶穌對他們說：「是我，不要怕！」門徒就欣然接他上船，船立刻到了他們所要去的地方。

耶穌隨即催門徒上船，先渡到對岸，到伯賽大去，等他叫眾人散去。他辭別了他們，就往山上去禱告。到了晚上，船在海中，耶穌獨自在岸上。他看見門徒因風不順，搖櫓很苦。天快亮的時候，他在海面上走，往他們那裏去，想要超過他們。但門徒看見他在海面上走，以為是鬼怪，就喊叫起來；因為他們都看見了他，甚為驚慌。耶穌連忙對他們說：「放心！是我，不要怕！」於是他到他們那裏，一上船，風就停了；他們心裏十分驚奇。這是因為他們不明白那分餅的事，心裏還是愚頑。

耶穌的兄弟們對他說：「你離開這裏上猶太去吧，好讓你的門徒也看見你所做的事。因為人要揚名，沒有在隱祕的地方行事的，如果你要做這些事，該把自己顯明給世人看。」

耶穌隨即催門徒上船，先渡到對岸，等他叫眾人散去。疏散了眾人以後，他獨自上山去禱告。到了晚上，只有他一人在那裏。那時船已離岸好幾里，因風不順，被浪顛簸。天快亮的時候，耶穌在海面上走，往門徒那裏去。但門徒看見他在海面上走，就驚慌了，說：「是個鬼怪！」他們害怕得喊叫起來。耶穌連忙對他們說：「放心！是我，不要怕！」彼得回答他說：「主啊，如果是你，請叫我從水面上走到你那裏去。」耶穌說：「你來吧！」彼得就從船上下去，在水面上走，往耶穌那裏去；只因見風很強，害怕起來，將要沉下去，就喊着說：「主啊，救我！」耶穌立刻伸手拉住他，說：「你這小信的人哪，為甚麼疑惑呢？」他們一上船，風就停了。在船上的人都拜他，說：「你真是上帝的兒子。」

前呼後擁的人都喊着說：「和散那！奉主名來的是應當稱頌的！

說：「奉主名來的王是應當稱頌的！在天上有和平；在至高之處有榮光。」

第二天，有一大羣上來過節的人聽見耶穌要來耶路撒冷，就拿着棕樹枝出去迎接他，喊着：「和散那，以色列的王！奉主名來的是應當稱頌的！」耶穌找到了一匹驢駒，就騎上，如經上所記：「錫安的兒女啊，不要懼怕！看哪，你的王來了；他騎在驢駒上。」

耶穌上了山，和門徒一同坐在那裏。

耶穌自己卻不信任他們，因為他認識所有的人，也用不着誰來證明人是怎樣的，因為他自己認識人的內心。

被造的，沒有一樣在他面前不是顯露的；萬物在他眼前都是赤露敞開的，我們必須向他交賬。

「我不接受從人來的榮耀，
