照這話，施洗約翰來到曠野，宣講悔改的洗禮，使罪得赦。猶太全地和全耶路撒冷的人都出去，到約翰那裏，承認他們的罪，在約旦河裏受他的洗。

約翰對那出來要受他洗的眾人說：「毒蛇的孽種啊，誰指示你們逃避那將要來的憤怒呢？

你的母親如葡萄樹，在葡萄園中，栽於水邊，因為水多，就多結果子，多生枝子；

雅各從巴旦‧亞蘭平安地回到迦南地的示劍城，他在城的前面支搭帳棚。

我聽見從天上有聲音，像眾水的聲音和大雷的聲音，我所聽見的聲音好像琴師所彈的琴聲。

那時，耶路撒冷、全猶太和全約旦河地區的人，都到約翰那裏去，承認他們的罪，在約旦河裏受他的洗。

看哪，以色列神的榮光從東而來，他的聲音如同眾水的響聲，地因他的榮耀發光。

我聽見好像一大羣人的聲音，像眾水的聲音，像大雷的聲音，說：「哈利路亞！因為主－我們的神、全能者，作王了。

掃羅走過以法蓮山區，又過沙利沙地，都沒有找着。他們走過沙琳地，驢不在那裏，又走過便雅憫地，也沒有找到。

雙腳好像在爐中鍛鍊得發亮的銅，聲音好像眾水的聲音。

住在眾水之上多有財寶的啊，你的結局已到！你貪婪之量已滿盈！
