於是那稱為低土馬的多馬對其他的門徒說：「我們也去和他同死吧！」

耶穌又到了加利利的迦拿，就是他從前變水為酒的地方。有一個大臣，他的兒子在迦百農病了。

腓力找到拿但業，對他說：「摩西在律法書上所寫的，和眾先知所記的那一位，我們遇見了，就是約瑟的兒子拿撒勒人耶穌。」拿但業對他說：「拿撒勒還能出甚麼好的嗎？」腓力說：「你來看。」耶穌看見拿但業向他走來，就論到他說：「看哪，這真是個以色列人！他心裏是沒有詭詐的。」拿但業對耶穌說：「你從哪裏認識我的？」耶穌回答他說：「腓力還沒有呼喚你，你在無花果樹底下，我就看見你了。」拿但業回答他：「拉比！你是神的兒子，你是以色列的王。」耶穌回答他說：「因為我說在無花果樹底下看見你，你就信嗎？你將看見比這些更大的事呢！」他又說：「我實實在在地告訴你們，你們將要看見天開了，神的使者在人子身上，上去下來。」第三日，在加利利的迦拿有一個婚宴，耶穌的母親在那裏。

多馬回答，對他說：「我的主！我的神！」

這是耶穌所行的第一個神蹟，是在加利利的迦拿行的，顯出了他的榮耀來，他的門徒就信他了。

又到義伯崙、利合、哈們、加拿，直到西頓大城。

耶穌從那裏往前走，看見另外兩兄弟，就是西庇太的兒子雅各和他弟弟約翰，同他們的父親西庇太在船上補網，耶穌就呼召他們。他們立刻捨了船，辭別父親，跟從了耶穌。

他的夥伴西庇太的兒子雅各、約翰，也是這樣。耶穌對西門說：「不要怕！從今以後，你要得人了。」
