耶穌還在和眾人說話的時候，祂的母親和兄弟站在外面，想要跟祂說話。

耶穌的弟弟們對祂說：「離開這裡，去猶太過節吧，好讓你的門徒在那裡也看見你所做的啊！因為人想出名，都不會暗地裡行事，你既然可以做這些事，就把自己顯給世人看吧！」原來連祂的弟弟們也不信祂。

他們進城後，來到樓上自己住的房間。當時有彼得、約翰、雅各、安得烈、腓力、多馬、巴多羅買、馬太、亞勒腓的兒子雅各、激進黨人西門、雅各的兒子猶大。他們和耶穌的母親瑪麗亞、耶穌的弟弟們及幾個婦女在一起同心合意地恆切禱告。

難道我們沒有權利像主的兄弟、彼得和其他使徒一樣，娶信主的姊妹為妻，一同出入嗎？

我也見了主耶穌的弟弟雅各，此外沒有見過其他使徒。

這不是那木匠的兒子嗎？祂母親不是瑪麗亞嗎？祂的弟弟不是雅各、約瑟、西門和猶大嗎？祂的妹妹們不也是住在我們這裡嗎？祂究竟從哪裡得來這一身本領呢？」

「迦百農啊，你將被提升到天上嗎？不！你將被打落到陰間。因為若把在你那裡所行的神蹟行在所多瑪，它肯定會存留到今天。

上了船，去湖對岸的迦百農。天色已暗，耶穌還沒到他們那裡。
