The man who saw it has given testimony, and his testimony is true. He knows that he tells the truth, and he testifies so that you also may believe.

有關生命之道，是從太初就有的，是我們所聽到、所親眼看到、所觀察過、又親手摸過的——的確，這生命已經顯明出來；我們看到了，現在也做見證，並向你們宣揚這永恆的生命；這生命原來與父同在、又向我們顯明出來了。我們把所看到、所聽到的也向你們宣揚，好使你們也能夠與我們相契合；而我們又是與父和他的兒子耶穌基督相契合的。

並且你們也要做見證，因為你們從一開始就與我在一起。

所以，我這同做長老的、做基督苦難見證人的、也在那將要顯現的榮耀中有份的，我懇求你們中間的長老們：

實際上，凡是先前被記載的，都是為了教導我們而寫的，好讓我們藉著忍耐和經上的安慰，懷有盼望。

那麼，如果我們忽視了如此偉大的救恩，又怎麼能逃脫報應呢？這救恩起初由主傳講，後來由那些聽見的人向我們證實。神又照著自己的旨意，用神蹟、奇事和各種大能，以及聖靈的各種恩賜，與他們一同見證。

我們就是他在猶太人之地和耶路撒冷所行的一切事的見證人。他們竟然把他掛在木頭上殺了。

但這些事被記下來，是要你們相信耶穌就是基督、是神的兒子；並且使你們因著信，就奉他的名有生命。

我知道你總是在垂聽我，但我這麼說，是為了這些站在周圍的民眾，好讓他們相信是你差派了我。」

耶穌看到母親和他所愛的那門徒站在旁邊，就對母親說：「母親，看哪，你的兒子！」

「我不僅為他們祈求，還為那些因他們的話而信我的人祈求，願他們都合而為一。父啊，正如你在我裡面，我也在你裡面，願他們也在我們裡面，好讓世界相信是你差派了我。

我為你們歡喜，因為我不在那裡，好使你們可以相信。現在我們到他那裡去吧。」
