They answered and said unto him, If this man were not an evil- doer, we should not have delivered him up unto thee.

對曰、彼若非行惡者、我儕則不付於爾矣、

眾應曰：『苟非惡類、必不解之爾前。』

“ If he were not a criminal,” they replied,“ we would not have handed him over to you.”

“ He has committed crimes,” they replied.“ If he hadn’t, we would not have handed him over to you.”

They answered him,“ If this man were not doing evil, we would not have delivered him over to you.”

“ We wouldn’t have handed him over to you if he weren’t a criminal!” they retorted.

They answered him,“ If this man weren’t a criminal, we wouldn’t have handed him over to you.”

They answered and said to him,“ If this Man were not a criminal, we would not have handed Him over to you.”

They answered and said to him,“ If He were not an evildoer, we would not have delivered Him up to you.”

They answered him,“ If this man weren’t a criminal, we wouldn’t have handed Him over to you.”

They answered and said unto him, If he were not a malefactor, we would not have delivered him up unto thee.

They replied,“ If this man were not a criminal, we would not have handed him over to you.”

They answered him,“ If this man weren’t an evildoer, we wouldn’t have delivered him up to you.”

saying, Behold, we go up to Jerusalem; and the Son of man shall be delivered unto the chief priests and the scribes; and they shall condemn him to death, and shall deliver him unto the Gentiles:

saying that the Son of man must be delivered up into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again.

Upon this Pilate sought to release him: but the Jews cried out, saying, If thou release this man, thou art not Cæsar’s friend: every one that maketh himself a king speaketh against Cæsar.

And the scribes and the chief priests sought to lay hands on him in that very hour; and they feared the people: for they perceived that he spake this parable against them.And they watched him, and sent forth spies, who feigned themselves to be righteous, that they might take hold of his speech, so as to deliver him up to the rule and to the authority of the governor.And they asked him, saying, Teacher, we know that thou sayest and teachest rightly, and acceptest not the person of any, but of a truth teachest the way of God:Is it lawful for us to give tribute unto Cæsar, or not?But he perceived their craftiness, and said unto them,Show me a denarius. Whose image and superscription hath it? And they said, Cæsar’s.And he said unto them, Then render unto Cæsar the things that are Cæsar’s, and unto God the things that are God’s.And they were not able to take hold of the saying before the people: and they marvelled at his answer, and held their peace.

And the chief priests accused him of many things.

The God of Abraham, and of Isaac, and of Jacob, the God of our fathers, hath glorified his Servant Jesus; whom ye delivered up, and denied before the face of Pilate, when he had determined to release him.

And they began to accuse him, saying, We found this man perverting our nation, and forbidding to give tribute to Cæsar, and saying that he himself is Christ a king.And Pilate asked him, saying, Art thou the King of the Jews? And he answered him and said, Thou sayest.And Pilate said unto the chief priests and the multitudes, I find no fault in this man.But they were the more urgent, saying, He stirreth up the people, teaching throughout all Judæa, and beginning from Galilee even unto this place.
