Then the Jewish leaders took Jesus from Caiaphas to the palace of the Roman governor. By now it was early morning, and to avoid ceremonial uncleanness they did not enter the palace, because they wanted to be able to eat the Passover.

Then they brought Jesus from Caiaphas to the Roman governor’s residence.( Now it was very early morning.) They did not go into the governor’s residence so they would not be ceremonially defiled, but could eat the Passover meal.

They led Jesus therefore from Caiaphas into the Praetorium. It was early, and they themselves didn’t enter into the Praetorium, that they might not be defiled, but might eat the Passover.

Then Pilate entered the Praetorium again, called Jesus, and said to Him,“ Are You the King of the Jews?”

and went again into the Praetorium, and said to Jesus,“ Where are You from?” But Jesus gave him no answer.

Then the soldiers of the governor took Jesus into the Praetorium and gathered the whole garrison around Him.

saying,“ You went in to uncircumcised men and ate with them!”

Then he said to them,“ You know how unlawful it is for a Jewish man to keep company with or go to one of another nation. But God has shown me that I should not call any man common or unclean.

Immediately, in the morning, the chief priests held a consultation with the elders and scribes and the whole council; and they bound Jesus, led Him away, and delivered Him to Pilate.Then Pilate asked Him,“ Are You the King of the Jews?” He answered and said to him,“ It is as you say.”And the chief priests accused Him of many things, but He answered nothing.Then Pilate asked Him again, saying,“ Do You answer nothing? See how many things they testify against You!”But Jesus still answered nothing, so that Pilate marveled.

Woe to those who devise iniquity, And work out evil on their beds! At morning light they practice it, Because it is in the power of their hand.

“ I hate, I despise your feast days, And I do not savor your sacred assemblies.Though you offer Me burnt offerings and your grain offerings, I will not accept them, Nor will I regard your fattened peace offerings.Take away from Me the noise of your songs, For I will not hear the melody of your stringed instruments.

Hear the word of the Lord, You rulers of Sodom; Give ear to the law of our God, You people of Gomorrah:“ To what purpose is the multitude of your sacrifices to Me?” Says the Lord.“ I have had enough of burnt offerings of rams And the fat of fed cattle. I do not delight in the blood of bulls, Or of lambs or goats.“ When you come to appear before Me, Who has required this from your hand, To trample My courts?Bring no more futile sacrifices; Incense is an abomination to Me. The New Moons, the Sabbaths, and the calling of assemblies— I cannot endure iniquity and the sacred meeting.Your New Moons and your appointed feasts My soul hates; They are a trouble to Me, I am weary of bearing them.When you spread out your hands, I will hide My eyes from you; Even though you make many prayers, I will not hear. Your hands are full of blood.

Now it was the Preparation Day of the Passover, and about the sixth hour. And he said to the Jews,“ Behold your King!”

“ Behold, you trust in lying words that cannot profit.Will you steal, murder, commit adultery, swear falsely, burn incense to Baal, and walk after other gods whom you do not know,and then come and stand before Me in this house which is called by My name, and say,‘ We are delivered to do all these abominations’?Has this house, which is called by My name, become a den of thieves in your eyes? Behold, I, even I, have seen it,” says the Lord.

Therefore you shall sacrifice the Passover to the Lord your God, from the flock and the herd, in the place where the Lord chooses to put His name.

And the Passover of the Jews was near, and many went from the country up to Jerusalem before the Passover, to purify themselves.

When morning came, all the chief priests and elders of the people plotted against Jesus to put Him to death.And when they had bound Him, they led Him away and delivered Him to Pontius Pilate the governor.Then Judas, His betrayer, seeing that He had been condemned, was remorseful and brought back the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and elders,saying,“ I have sinned by betraying innocent blood.” And they said,“ What is that to us? You see to it!”Then he threw down the pieces of silver in the temple and departed, and went and hanged himself.But the chief priests took the silver pieces and said,“ It is not lawful to put them into the treasury, because they are the price of blood.”And they consulted together and bought with them the potter’s field, to bury strangers in.Therefore that field has been called the Field of Blood to this day.Then was fulfilled what was spoken by Jeremiah the prophet, saying,“ And they took the thirty pieces of silver, the value of Him who was priced, whom they of the children of Israel priced,and gave them for the potter’s field, as the Lord directed me.”

For they do not sleep unless they have done evil; And their sleep is taken away unless they make someone fall.

As soon as it was day, the elders of the people, both chief priests and scribes, came together and led Him into their council, saying,

“ In the first month, on the fourteenth day of the month, you shall observe the Passover, a feast of seven days; unleavened bread shall be eaten.

“ Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you pay tithe of mint and anise and cummin, and have neglected the weightier matters of the law: justice and mercy and faith. These you ought to have done, without leaving the others undone.Blind guides, who strain out a gnat and swallow a camel!“ Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you cleanse the outside of the cup and dish, but inside they are full of extortion and self-indulgence.Blind Pharisee, first cleanse the inside of the cup and dish, that the outside of them may be clean also.“ Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you are like whitewashed tombs which indeed appear beautiful outwardly, but inside are full of dead men’s bones and all uncleanness.Even so you also outwardly appear righteous to men, but inside you are full of hypocrisy and lawlessness.

“ But you have a custom that I should release someone to you at the Passover. Do you therefore want me to release to you the King of the Jews?”

Then the soldiers led Him away into the hall called Praetorium, and they called together the whole garrison.

For their feet run to evil, And they make haste to shed blood.

With ungodly mockers at feasts They gnashed at me with their teeth.

Who build up Zion with bloodshed And Jerusalem with iniquity:Her heads judge for a bribe, Her priests teach for pay, And her prophets divine for money. Yet they lean on the Lord, and say,“ Is not the Lord among us? No harm can come upon us.”Therefore because of you Zion shall be plowed like a field, Jerusalem shall become heaps of ruins, And the mountain of the temple Like the bare hills of the forest.

And his leaders gave willingly to the people, to the priests, and to the Levites. Hilkiah, Zechariah, and Jehiel, rulers of the house of God, gave to the priests for the Passover offerings two thousand six hundred from the flock, and three hundred cattle.Also Conaniah, his brothers Shemaiah and Nethanel, and Hashabiah and Jeiel and Jozabad, chief of the Levites, gave to the Levites for Passover offerings five thousand from the flock and five hundred cattle.So the service was prepared, and the priests stood in their places, and the Levites in their divisions, according to the king’s command.And they slaughtered the Passover offerings; and the priests sprinkled the blood with their hands, while the Levites skinned the animals.Then they removed the burnt offerings that they might give them to the divisions of the fathers’ houses of the lay people, to offer to the Lord, as it is written in the Book of Moses. And so they did with the cattle.Also they roasted the Passover offerings with fire according to the ordinance; but the other holy offerings they boiled in pots, in caldrons, and in pans, and divided them quickly among all the lay people.Then afterward they prepared portions for themselves and for the priests, because the priests, the sons of Aaron, were busy in offering burnt offerings and fat until night; therefore the Levites prepared portions for themselves and for the priests, the sons of Aaron.

The God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, the God of our fathers, glorified His Servant Jesus, whom you delivered up and denied in the presence of Pilate, when he was determined to let Him go.

Then the whole multitude of them arose and led Him to Pilate.And they began to accuse Him, saying,“ We found this fellow perverting the nation, and forbidding to pay taxes to Caesar, saying that He Himself is Christ, a King.”Then Pilate asked Him, saying,“ Are You the King of the Jews?” He answered him and said,“ It is as you say.”So Pilate said to the chief priests and the crowd,“ I find no fault in this Man.”But they were the more fierce, saying,“ He stirs up the people, teaching throughout all Judea, beginning from Galilee to this place.”

And the children of Israel who were present kept the Passover at that time, and the Feast of Unleavened Bread for seven days.There had been no Passover kept in Israel like that since the days of Samuel the prophet; and none of the kings of Israel had kept such a Passover as Josiah kept, with the priests and the Levites, all Judah and Israel who were present, and the inhabitants of Jerusalem.

So the children of Israel who were present at Jerusalem kept the Feast of Unleavened Bread seven days with great gladness; and the Levites and the priests praised the Lord day by day, singing to the Lord, accompanied by loud instruments.And Hezekiah gave encouragement to all the Levites who taught the good knowledge of the Lord; and they ate throughout the feast seven days, offering peace offerings and making confession to the Lord God of their fathers.Then the whole assembly agreed to keep the feast another seven days, and they kept it another seven days with gladness.For Hezekiah king of Judah gave to the assembly a thousand bulls and seven thousand sheep, and the leaders gave to the assembly a thousand bulls and ten thousand sheep; and a great number of priests sanctified themselves.
