So Peter remembered the word of the Lord, how he had said to him,“ Before the rooster crows today, you will deny me three times.”And he went outside and wept bitterly.

Then he started to curse and swear,“ I don’t know this man you’re talking about!”Immediately a rooster crowed a second time, and Peter remembered when Jesus had spoken the word to him,“ Before the rooster crows twice, you will deny me three times.” And he broke down and wept.

“ Truly I tell you,” Jesus said to him,“ today, this very night, before the rooster crows twice, you will deny me three times.”

“ Truly I tell you,” Jesus said to him,“ tonight, before the rooster crows, you will deny me three times.”

Then he started to curse and to swear with an oath,“ I don’t know the man!” Immediately a rooster crowed,and Peter remembered the words Jesus had spoken,“ Before the rooster crows, you will deny me three times.” And he went outside and wept bitterly.

But he denied it:“ I don’t know or understand what you’re talking about.” Then he went out to the entryway, and a rooster crowed.

“ I tell you, Peter,” he said,“ the rooster will not crow today until you deny three times that you know me.”
