And when he had thus spoken, one of the officers which stood by struck Jesus with the palm of his hand, saying, Answerest thou the high priest so?

語甫出、旁立一吏批其頰曰：『若敢如此對總司祭耶！』

When Jesus said this, one of the officials nearby slapped him in the face.“ Is this the way you answer the high priest?” he demanded.

But when He said this, one of the officers, who was standing nearby, struck Jesus, saying,“ Is that the way You answer the high priest?”

And when He had said these things, one of the officers who stood by struck Jesus with the palm of his hand, saying,“ Do You answer the high priest like that?”

And when he had said this, one of the officers standing by struck Jesus with his hand, saying, Answerest thou the high priest so?

When He had said these things, one of the temple police standing by slapped Jesus, saying,“ Is this the way you answer the high priest?”

When Jesus had said this, one of the high priest’s officers who stood nearby struck him on the face and said,“ Is that the way you answer the high priest?”

When he had said this, one of the officers standing by slapped Jesus with his hand, saying,“ Do you answer the high priest like that?”

And the high priest Ananias commanded them that stood by him to smite him on the mouth.Then said Paul unto him, God shall smite thee,[ thou] whited wall: for sittest thou to judge me after the law, and commandest me to be smitten contrary to the law?And they that stood by said, Revilest thou God’s high priest?Then said Paul, I wist not, brethren, that he was the high priest: for it is written, Thou shalt not speak evil of the ruler of thy people.

And said, Hail, King of the Jews! and they smote him with their hands.

They abhor me, they flee far from me, and spare not to spit in my face.Because he hath loosed my cord, and afflicted me, they have also let loose the bridle before me.Upon[ my] right[ hand] rise the youth; they push away my feet, and they raise up against me the ways of their destruction.

Then did they spit in his face, and buffeted him; and others smote[ him] with the palms of their hands,Saying, Prophesy unto us, thou Christ, Who is he that smote thee?

And the men that held Jesus mocked him, and smote[ him].And when they had blindfolded him, they struck him on the face, and asked him, saying, Prophesy, who is it that smote thee?

Now gather thyself in troops, O daughter of troops: he hath laid siege against us: they shall smite the judge of Israel with a rod upon the cheek.

They have gaped upon me with their mouth; they have smitten me upon the cheek reproachfully; they have gathered themselves together against me.

Then Pashur smote Jeremiah the prophet, and put him in the stocks that[ were] in the high gate of Benjamin, which[ was] by the house of the LORD.

And some began to spit on him, and to cover his face, and to buffet him, and to say unto him, Prophesy: and the servants did strike him with the palms of their hands.

Judas then, having received a band[ of men] and officers from the chief priests and Pharisees, cometh thither with lanterns and torches and weapons.

The Lord GOD hath opened mine ear, and I was not rebellious, neither turned away back.I gave my back to the smiters, and my cheeks to them that plucked off the hair: I hid not my face from shame and spitting.For the Lord GOD will help me; therefore shall I not be confounded: therefore have I set my face like a flint, and I know that I shall not be ashamed.
