May I never join in their meetings; may I never be a party to their plans. For in their anger they murdered men, and they crippled oxen just for sport.

Oh, the joys of those who do not follow the advice of the wicked, or stand around with sinners, or join in with mockers.

Meanwhile, as Simon Peter was standing by the fire warming himself, they asked him again,“ You’re not one of his disciples, are you?” He denied it, saying,“ No, I am not.”

Walk with the wise and become wise; associate with fools and get in trouble.

The guards lit a fire in the middle of the courtyard and sat around it, and Peter joined them there.A servant girl noticed him in the firelight and began staring at him. Finally she said,“ This man was one of Jesus’ followers!”

and noticed Peter warming himself at the fire. She looked at him closely and said,“ You were one of those with Jesus of Nazareth.”

Take no part in the worthless deeds of evil and darkness; instead, expose them.It is shameful even to talk about the things that ungodly people do in secret.

What harmony can there be between Christ and the devil? How can a believer be a partner with an unbeliever?And what union can there be between God’s temple and idols? For we are the temple of the living God. As God said:“ I will live in them and walk among them. I will be their God, and they will be my people.Therefore, come out from among unbelievers, and separate yourselves from them, says the Lord. Don’t touch their filthy things, and I will welcome you.

Don’t be fooled by those who say such things, for“ bad company corrupts good character.”

As soon as they were freed, Peter and John returned to the other believers and told them what the leading priests and elders had said.

When they got there, they found breakfast waiting for them— fish cooking over a charcoal fire, and some bread.

There he came to a cave, where he spent the night. But the Lord said to him,“ What are you doing here, Elijah?”

He prayed more fervently, and he was in such agony of spirit that his sweat fell to the ground like great drops of blood.
