彼得远远地跟着耶稣，直到大祭司的官邸。他进到里面，和差役坐在一起，要看事情怎样了结。祭司长和公议会全体都想找假证供来控告耶稣，好把他处死；虽然有许多人前来作假证供，却找不着证据。最后有两个人前来说：“这人说过：‘我可以拆毁神的圣所，三日之内又把它建造起来。’”大祭司就站起来，对耶稣说：“你为什么不回答？这些人作证，控告你的是什么呢？”耶稣却不作声。大祭司又对他说：“我指着永生的神要你起誓，告诉我们你是不是基督、神的儿子。”耶稣回答：“你已经说了﹙“你已经说了”或译：“这是你说的。”﹚；但我告诉你们：从今以后，你们要看见人子，坐在权能者的右边，驾着天上的云降临。”大祭司就撕开衣服，说：“他说了亵渎的话，我们还要什么证人呢？你们现在听见了这亵渎的话，认为怎样呢？”他们回答：“他是该死的。”于是他们吐唾沫在他的脸上，用拳头打他，也有人用掌掴他，说：“基督啊，向我们说预言吧！是谁打你呢？”

那时，祭司长和民间的长老聚集在大祭司该亚法的官邸，
