Simon Peter asked,“ Lord, where are you going?” And Jesus replied,“ You can’t go with me now, but you will follow me later.”

But Jesus told them,“ I will be with you only a little longer. Then I will return to the one who sent me.

Righteousness is available because I go to the Father, and you will see me no more.

However, he has given each one of us a special gift through the generosity of Christ.That is why the Scriptures say,“ When he ascended to the heights, he led a crowd of captives and gave gifts to his people.”Notice that it says“ he ascended.” This clearly means that Christ also descended to our lowly world.And the same one who descended is the one who ascended higher than all the heavens, so that he might fill the entire universe with himself.Now these are the gifts Christ gave to the church: the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, and the pastors and teachers.

I brought glory to you here on earth by completing the work you gave me to do.

Yes, I came from the Father into the world, and now I will leave the world and return to the Father.”

Jesus knew that the Father had given him authority over everything and that he had come from God and would return to God.

And you know the way to where I am going.”“ No, we don’t know, Lord,” Thomas said.“ We have no idea where you are going, so how can we know the way?”Jesus told him,“ I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me.

The Son radiates God’s own glory and expresses the very character of God, and he sustains everything by the mighty power of his command. When he had cleansed us from our sins, he sat down in the place of honor at the right hand of the majestic God in heaven.

We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith. Because of the joy awaiting him, he endured the cross, disregarding its shame. Now he is seated in the place of honor beside God’s throne.

Remember what I told you: I am going away, but I will come back to you again. If you really loved me, you would be happy that I am going to the Father, who is greater than I am.

“ In a little while you won’t see me anymore. But a little while after that, you will see me again.”

Then what will you think if you see the Son of Man ascend to heaven again?

“ Now I am coming to you. I told them many things while I was with them in this world so they would be filled with my joy.
