“ Though I have been speaking figuratively, a time is coming when I will no longer use this kind of language but will tell you plainly about my Father.

“ I have not been speaking to you plainly. But a time is coming when I will speak clearly. Then I will tell you plainly about my Father.

His disciples came and asked him,“ Why do you use parables when you talk to the people?”He replied,“ You are permitted to understand the secrets of the Kingdom of Heaven, but others are not.

Yes, I came from the Father into the world, and now I will leave the world and return to the Father.”Then his disciples said,“ At last you are speaking plainly and not figuratively.

Jesus always used stories and illustrations like these when speaking to the crowds. In fact, he never spoke to them without using such parables.This fulfilled what God had spoken through the prophet:“ I will speak to you in parables. I will explain things hidden since the creation of the world.”

Those who heard Jesus use this illustration didn’t understand what he meant,

Then Jesus said to them,“ If you can’t understand the meaning of this parable, how will you understand all the other parables?

I listen carefully to many proverbs and solve riddles with inspiration from a harp.

for I will speak to you in a parable. I will teach you hidden lessons from our past—

Since this new way gives us such confidence, we can be very bold.We are not like Moses, who put a veil over his face so the people of Israel would not see the glory, even though it was destined to fade away.But the people’s minds were hardened, and to this day whenever the old covenant is being read, the same veil covers their minds so they cannot understand the truth. And this veil can be removed only by believing in Christ.Yes, even today when they read Moses’ writings, their hearts are covered with that veil, and they do not understand.But whenever someone turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away.For the Lord is the Spirit, and wherever the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.So all of us who have had that veil removed can see and reflect the glory of the Lord. And the Lord— who is the Spirit— makes us more and more like him as we are changed into his glorious image.

Now he is exalted to the place of highest honor in heaven, at God’s right hand. And the Father, as he had promised, gave him the Holy Spirit to pour out upon us, just as you see and hear today.For David himself never ascended into heaven, yet he said,‘ The Lord said to my Lord,“ Sit in the place of honor at my right handuntil I humble your enemies, making them a footstool under your feet.”’“ So let everyone in Israel know for certain that God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, to be both Lord and Messiah!”

We reject all shameful deeds and underhanded methods. We don’t try to trick anyone or distort the word of God. We tell the truth before God, and all who are honest know this.

For you will be expelled from the synagogues, and the time is coming when those who kill you will think they are doing a holy service for God.

“ In a little while you won’t see me anymore. But a little while after that, you will see me again.”Some of the disciples asked each other,“ What does he mean when he says,‘ In a little while you won’t see me, but then you will see me,’ and‘ I am going to the Father’?
