人正在说平安稳妥的时候，毁灭性的灾祸就突然临到他们，好像生产的痛苦临到怀胎的妇人一样，他们绝不能逃脱。

他们都要惊惶失措，疼痛与痛苦必抓住他们；他们必绞痛，像生产中的妇人一样。他们在惊愕中彼此对望，面色像火焰一般。

耶和华神对女人说：“我要大大增加你怀胎的痛苦，你必在痛苦中生产儿女；你要恋慕你的丈夫，他却要管辖你。”

因为经上记着说：“不能生育、没有生养的啊，你要欢欣！没有受过生产痛苦的啊，你要呼喊，大声呼叫！因为弃妇比有夫之妇有更多儿子。”

他使不能生育的妇人安居家中，成了有许多儿女的快乐母亲。你们要赞美耶和华。

生产的疼痛要临到他身上，他却是没有智慧的人，因为产期到了，他还迟延不破胎而出。我要救赎他们脱离阴间的权势吗？救赎他们脱离死亡吗？死亡啊，你的灾害在哪里？阴间啊，你的毁灭在哪里？怜悯必从我眼前隐藏起来。

撒拉说：“神使我欢笑，凡听见的，也必为我欢笑。”又说：“谁能告诉亚伯拉罕，撒拉要乳养儿女呢？在他年老的时候，我竟给他生了一个儿子。”

拉结就怀孕，生了一个儿子，说：“神把我的耻辱除去了。”于是给孩子起名叫约瑟，说：“愿耶和华再给我一个儿子。”

耶和华啊！我们在急难中寻求你；你的惩罚临到我们身上的时候，我们就倾心吐意低声祷告。怀孕的妇人临产时怎样疼痛，在绞痛中喊叫；耶和华啊！我们在你面前也是这样。我们也曾像怀孕一般疼痛，但所生的像风；我们未曾在地上行过拯救的事，世上的居民也未曾因我们生下来。

锡安的女子啊！你要疼痛劬劳，好像临产的妇人；因为现在你要从城里出来，住在田野，一定要到巴比伦去；在那里你要蒙拯救，在那里耶和华必救赎你，脱离仇敌的掌握。

妇人说：“我主啊，我敢指着我主的性命起誓，我就是从前在这里站在你旁边，向耶和华祷告的那个妇人。那时我祈求为要得这孩子，耶和华已经把我向他所求的赐给我了，

她怀了孕，在生产的痛苦中疼痛呼叫。天上又出现了另一个景象。看哪！有一条大红龙，有七头十角，七头上戴着七个皇冠。它的尾巴拖着天上三分之一的星辰，把它们摔在地上。龙站在那快要生产的妇人面前，等她生产了，就要吞吃她的孩子。她生了一个男孩子，就是将来要用铁杖治理列国的。她的孩子被提取到神和他宝座那里去。

以利沙伯的产期到了，生了一个儿子。邻里亲戚，听见主向她大施怜悯，都和她一同欢乐。
