I tell you the truth, you will weep and mourn over what is going to happen to me, but the world will rejoice. You will grieve, but your grief will suddenly turn to wonderful joy.

Very truly I tell you, you will weep and mourn while the world rejoices. You will grieve, but your grief will turn to joy.

What I’m about to tell you is true. You will weep and mourn while the world is full of joy. You will be sad, but your sadness will turn into joy.

Truly, truly, I say to you, you will weep and lament, but the world will rejoice. You will be sorrowful, but your sorrow will turn into joy.

Dear brothers and sisters, when troubles of any kind come your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy.

God blesses those who mourn, for they will be comforted.

She went to the disciples, who were grieving and weeping, and told them what had happened.

So be truly glad. There is wonderful joy ahead, even though you must endure many trials for a little while.These trials will show that your faith is genuine. It is being tested as fire tests and purifies gold— though your faith is far more precious than mere gold. So when your faith remains strong through many trials, it will bring you much praise and glory and honor on the day when Jesus Christ is revealed to the whole world.You love him even though you have never seen him. Though you do not see him now, you trust him; and you rejoice with a glorious, inexpressible joy.

You have turned my mourning into joyful dancing. You have taken away my clothes of mourning and clothed me with joy,

A large crowd trailed behind, including many grief stricken women.

Our hearts ache, but we always have joy. We are poor, but we give spiritual riches to others. We own nothing, and yet we have everything.

And I said to him,“ Sir, you are the one who knows.” Then he said to me,“ These are the ones who died in the great tribulation. They have washed their robes in the blood of the Lamb and made them white.“ That is why they stand in front of God’s throne and serve him day and night in his Temple. And he who sits on the throne will give them shelter.They will never again be hungry or thirsty; they will never be scorched by the heat of the sun.For the Lamb on the throne will be their Shepherd. He will lead them to springs of life giving water. And God will wipe every tear from their eyes.”

For his anger lasts only a moment, but his favor lasts a lifetime! Weeping may last through the night, but joy comes with the morning.

Those who plant in tears will harvest with shouts of joy.They weep as they go to plant their seed, but they sing as they return with the harvest.

I waited patiently for the Lord to help me, and he turned to me and heard my cry.He lifted me out of the pit of despair, out of the mud and the mire. He set my feet on solid ground and steadied me as I walked along.He has given me a new song to sing, a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see what he has done and be amazed. They will put their trust in the Lord.

We had hoped he was the Messiah who had come to rescue Israel. This all happened three days ago.

For I have given rest to the weary and joy to the sorrowing.”

Now all glory to God, who is able to keep you from falling away and will bring you with great joy into his glorious presence without a single fault.

So now we can rejoice in our wonderful new relationship with God because our Lord Jesus Christ has made us friends of God.

But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,

To all who mourn in Israel, he will give a crown of beauty for ashes, a joyous blessing instead of mourning, festive praise instead of despair. In their righteousness, they will be like great oaks that the Lord has planted for his own glory.

And Peter left the courtyard, weeping bitterly.

The apostles left the high council rejoicing that God had counted them worthy to suffer disgrace for the name of Jesus.

He will swallow up death forever! The Sovereign Lord will wipe away all tears. He will remove forever all insults and mockery against his land and people. The Lord has spoken!In that day the people will proclaim,“ This is our God! We trusted in him, and he saved us! This is the Lord, in whom we trusted. Let us rejoice in the salvation he brings!”

the triumph of the wicked has been short lived and the joy of the godless has been only temporary?

He asked them,“ What are you discussing so intently as you walk along?” They stopped short, sadness written across their faces.

At last he stood up again and returned to the disciples, only to find them asleep, exhausted from grief.

And immediately the rooster crowed the second time. Suddenly, Jesus’ words flashed through Peter’s mind:“ Before the rooster crows twice, you will deny three times that you even know me.” And he broke down and wept.

She glorified herself and lived in luxury, so match it now with torment and sorrow. She boasted in her heart,‘ I am queen on my throne. I am no helpless widow, and I have no reason to mourn.’

Light shines on the godly, and joy on those whose hearts are right.

I have told you all this so that you may have peace in me. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world.”

Instead, you grieve because of what I’ve told you.

They worshiped together at the Temple each day, met in homes for the Lord’s Supper, and shared their meals with great joy and generosity—all the while praising God and enjoying the goodwill of all the people. And each day the Lord added to their fellowship those who were being saved.

All the people who belong to this world will gloat over them and give presents to each other to celebrate the death of the two prophets who had tormented them.

God blesses you who are hungry now, for you will be satisfied. God blesses you who weep now, for in due time you will laugh.

Hear this message from the Lord, all you who tremble at his words:“ Your own people hate you and throw you out for being loyal to my name.‘ Let the Lord be honored!’ they scoff.‘ Be joyful in him!’ But they will be put to shame.

Because of our faith, Christ has brought us into this place of undeserved privilege where we now stand, and we confidently and joyfully look forward to sharing God’s glory.We can rejoice, too, when we run into problems and trials, for we know that they help us develop endurance.

In that day you will sing:“ I will praise you, O Lord! You were angry with me, but not anymore. Now you comfort me.

Now may our Lord Jesus Christ himself and God our Father, who loved us and by his grace gave us eternal comfort and a wonderful hope,comfort you and strengthen you in every good thing you do and say.

The next day, on the Sabbath, the leading priests and Pharisees went to see Pilate.They told him,“ Sir, we remember what that deceiver once said while he was still alive:‘ After three days I will rise from the dead.’So we request that you seal the tomb until the third day. This will prevent his disciples from coming and stealing his body and then telling everyone he was raised from the dead! If that happens, we’ll be worse off than we were at first.”Pilate replied,“ Take guards and secure it the best you can.”So they sealed the tomb and posted guards to protect it.

When the Roman officer overseeing the execution saw what had happened, he worshiped God and said,“ Surely this man was innocent.”And when all the crowd that came to see the crucifixion saw what had happened, they went home in deep sorrow.But Jesus’ friends, including the women who had followed him from Galilee, stood at a distance watching.

Tears of joy will stream down their faces, and I will lead them home with great care. They will walk beside quiet streams and on smooth paths where they will not stumble. For I am Israel’s father, and Ephraim is my oldest child.“ Listen to this message from the Lord, you nations of the world; proclaim it in distant coastlands: The Lord, who scattered his people, will gather them and watch over them as a shepherd does his flock.For the Lord has redeemed Israel from those too strong for them.They will come home and sing songs of joy on the heights of Jerusalem. They will be radiant because of the Lord’s good gifts— the abundant crops of grain, new wine, and olive oil, and the healthy flocks and herds. Their life will be like a watered garden, and all their sorrows will be gone.The young women will dance for joy, and the men— old and young— will join in the celebration. I will turn their mourning into joy. I will comfort them and exchange their sorrow for rejoicing.The priests will enjoy abundance, and my people will feast on my good gifts. I, the Lord, have spoken!”

So you received the message with joy from the Holy Spirit in spite of the severe suffering it brought you. In this way, you imitated both us and the Lord.

The people passing by shouted abuse, shaking their heads in mockery.“ Ha! Look at you now!” they yelled at him.“ You said you were going to destroy the Temple and rebuild it in three days.Well then, save yourself and come down from the cross!”The leading priests and teachers of religious law also mocked Jesus.“ He saved others,” they scoffed,“ but he can’t save himself!Let this Messiah, this King of Israel, come down from the cross so we can see it and believe him!” Even the men who were crucified with Jesus ridiculed him.

Well then, if you are the Son of God, save yourself and come down from the cross!”The leading priests, the teachers of religious law, and the elders also mocked Jesus.“ He saved others,” they scoffed,“ but he can’t save himself! So he is the King of Israel, is he? Let him come down from the cross right now, and we will believe in him!He trusted God, so let God rescue him now if he wants him! For he said,‘ I am the Son of God.’”Even the revolutionaries who were crucified with him ridiculed him in the same way.

Standing near the cross were Jesus’ mother, and his mother’s sister, Mary( the wife of Clopas), and Mary Magdalene.When Jesus saw his mother standing there beside the disciple he loved, he said to her,“ Dear woman, here is your son.”And he said to this disciple,“ Here is your mother.” And from then on this disciple took her into his home.

As he spoke, he showed them the wounds in his hands and his side. They were filled with joy when they saw the Lord!

“ But when the tenant farmers saw his son coming, they said to one another,‘ Here comes the heir to this estate. Come on, let’s kill him and get the estate for ourselves!’
