( For Jesus knew the one who was going to betray him. For this reason he said,“ Not every one of you is clean.”)

蓋彼固知誰將賣之、故云：「爾曹非人人皆潔」也。

For he knew who was going to betray him, and that was why he said not every one was clean.

Jesus knew who was going to hand him over to his enemies. That was why he said not every one was clean.

For he knew who was to betray him; that was why he said,“ Not all of you are clean.”

For Jesus knew who would betray him. That is what he meant when he said,“ Not all of you are clean.”

He did not need anyone to testify about man, for he knew what was in man.

But there are some of you who do not believe.”( For Jesus had already known from the beginning who those were who did not believe, and who it was who would betray him.)So Jesus added,“ Because of this I told you that no one can come to me unless the Father has allowed him to come.”After this many of his disciples quit following him and did not accompany him any longer.So Jesus said to the twelve,“ You don’t want to go away too, do you?”Simon Peter answered him,“ Lord, to whom would we go? You have the words of eternal life.We have come to believe and to know that you are the Holy One of God!”Jesus replied,“ Didn’t I choose you, the twelve, and yet one of you is the devil?”( Now he said this about Judas son of Simon Iscariot, for Judas, one of the twelve, was going to betray him.)

When he had said these things, Jesus was greatly distressed in spirit, and testified,“ I tell you the solemn truth, one of you will betray me.”

Jesus replied,“ It is the one to whom I will give this piece of bread after I have dipped it in the dish.” Then he dipped the piece of bread in the dish and gave it to Judas Iscariot, Simon’s son.

When I was with them I kept them safe and watched over them in your name that you have given me. Not one of them was lost except the one destined for destruction, so that the scripture could be fulfilled.

“ What I am saying does not refer to all of you. I know the ones I have chosen. But this is to fulfill the scripture,‘ The one who eats my bread has turned against me.’

The evening meal was in progress, and the devil had already put into the heart of Judas Iscariot, Simon’s son, that he should betray Jesus.

The Son of Man will go as it is written about him, but woe to that man by whom the Son of Man is betrayed! It would be better for him if he had never been born.”Then Judas, the one who would betray him, said,“ Surely not I, Rabbi?” Jesus replied,“ You have said it yourself.”
