Yet at the same time many even among the leaders believed in him. But because of the Pharisees they would not openly acknowledge their faith for fear they would be put out of the synagogue;

At the same time that Jesus did those signs, many of the Jewish leaders believed in him. But because of the Pharisees, they would not openly admit they believed. They were afraid they would be thrown out of the synagogue.

Nevertheless, many even of the authorities believed in him, but for fear of the Pharisees they did not confess it, so that they would not be put out of the synagogue;

「你們這些認識公義、把我的律法存在心裡的子民哪，要聽我的話！你們不要害怕人的辱罵，也不要因他們的毀謗而喪膽。

只是沒有人公開地講論他的事，因為怕那些猶太人。

他的父母說這些話，是因為怕那些猶太人。原來那些猶太人已經說好，如果有人承認耶穌是基督，就要把他趕出會堂。

對人的懼怕，會成為陷阱；依靠耶和華的，安穩在高處。

「凡是在人面前承認我的，我在我天上的父面前也將承認他；

他夜裡來到耶穌那裡，說：「拉比，我們知道你是從神那裡來的老師，因為你所行的這些神蹟，如果沒有神的同在，沒有人能做得到。」

你們從這一點就認出神的靈：任何靈承認耶穌基督是以肉身而來的，這靈就是出於神；

來到瑪麗亞那裡的許多猶太人，看到耶穌所做的事，就信了耶穌。

因為有許多猶太人為了拉撒路的緣故，離開他們，信了耶穌。

他們回答他，說：「你完全是生在罪孽中的，還敢教訓我們！」於是把他趕了出去。

難道首領或法利賽人中有信他的嗎？這不懂律法的民眾是被詛咒的！」他們當中有一個人，就是原先來到耶穌那裡的尼克迪莫，對他們說：「如果不先聽本人的口供，並且了解他做了什麼，我們的律法就定不了他的罪，難道不是嗎？」

當人們因人子的緣故憎恨你們，排斥你們，責罵你們，把你們當做惡人革除你們的名，你們就是蒙福的。

因耶和華的話語而戰兢的人哪，你們要聽他的話！他說：「你們的兄弟，就是那些恨惡你們、因我名的緣故逼迫你們的，曾說：『願耶和華得榮耀，好讓我們看見你們的喜樂吧！』他們卻必蒙羞。」

這樣使徒們就快快樂樂地離開了議會，因為算是配得上為這名受凌辱。

彼得坐在外面的院子裡，有一個女僕過來對他說：「你也與那個加利利人耶穌是一夥的。」彼得卻在眾人面前否認說：「我不知道你在說什麼。」他出去到門口，另有一個女僕看見他，對那裡的人說：「這個人與拿撒勒人耶穌是一夥的。」彼得又起誓否認說：「我不認識那個人！」過了一會兒，旁邊站著的人過來對彼得說：「你真的也是與他們一夥的，因為連你的口音也把你暴露了。」彼得就開始賭咒並起誓說：「我不認識那個人！」立時，雞就叫了。彼得想起耶穌說過的話：「雞叫以前，你會三次不認我」，就到外面去，痛哭起來。

「我告訴你們：無論誰在人面前承認我，人子在神的天使們面前也將承認他；

他們將要把你們趕出會堂。不但如此，時候就要到了！那殺你們的人，都會以為自己是在事奉神。

就是說，人心裡相信以致稱義，口裡承認以致救恩，

這些事以後，亞利馬太的約瑟請求彼拉多，要領取耶穌的遺體。約瑟也是耶穌的門徒，不過是暗暗地做門徒，因為他怕那些猶太人。彼拉多准許了，他就來把耶穌的遺體領去。

你究竟害怕誰、畏懼誰，以致說謊、不記念我，也不把我放在心上呢？難道我長久以來不是一直靜默嗎？難道你們因此就不敬畏我了嗎？

各位蒙愛的人哪，當火一樣的考驗臨到你們中間，給你們試煉的時候，你們不要感到奇怪，好像發生了怪異的事。相反，你們既然在基督的苦難上有份，就應該照此歡喜，好使你們在他榮耀顯現的時候，也可以歡喜、快樂。你們如果因基督的名受責罵，就是蒙福的，因為榮耀的靈，就是神的靈，住在你們身上。你們當中不可有人因殺人、偷竊、作惡、好管閒事而受苦；但如果有人因為是基督徒而受苦，他不應該感到羞恥，反要奉這名來榮耀神；

凡是承認耶穌是神兒子的，神就住在他裡面，他也住在神裡面。
