於是他們拿起石頭來、要打他；耶穌卻逕自隱藏着，出殿去了。

主人就稱讚這不義的管家作事精明。因為對付自己的世代，今世之子竟比亮光之子更精明了。

因為你們從前是黑暗，如今在主裏乃是光；行事為人總要像光的兒女

這個人來作見證，是要為光作見證，使眾人藉着他而相信。

但我們呢、我們既是屬於白晝的，就該冷靜戒備着，穿上了信與愛做胸甲，又戴上了得救之盼望當做頭盔。

因此耶穌不再公開在猶太人中間往來，卻離開那裏、往靠近曠野的地區去，到了一座城叫以法蓮，就在那裏同門徒住下。

但實行「真實」的卻來就光，要使他的行為顯出是在上帝裏面而行的。』

於是他們又想法子要逮他；他卻逕自從他們手裏出來了。耶穌又往約但河外，到了約翰先前施洗的地方，住在那裏。

那說自己在光裏、而恨弟兄的，到現在還在黑暗中。愛弟兄的、住在光裏面；在光裏面並沒有絆跌的因由。惟獨恨弟兄的是在黑暗中，並且在黑暗中行；他不知道要往哪裏去，因為黑暗把他的眼弄瞎了。

於是離開他們，出城到伯大尼，在那裏住宿。
