While he was in Bethany, reclining at the table in the home of Simon the Leper, a woman came with an alabaster jar of very expensive perfume, made of pure nard. She broke the jar and poured the perfume on his head.

As Jesus and his disciples were on their way, he came to a village where a woman named Martha opened her home to him.She had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord’s feet listening to what he said.But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. She came to him and asked,“ Lord, don’t you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!”“ Martha, Martha,” the Lord answered,“ you are worried and upset about many things,but few things are needed— or indeed only one. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.”

It will be good for those servants whose master finds them watching when he comes. Truly I tell you, he will dress himself to serve, will have them recline at the table and will come and wait on them.

When he had said this, Jesus called in a loud voice,“ Lazarus, come out!”The dead man came out, his hands and feet wrapped with strips of linen, and a cloth around his face. Jesus said to them,“ Take off the grave clothes and let him go.”

Then Levi held a great banquet for Jesus at his house, and a large crowd of tax collectors and others were eating with them.

Then Jesus said to his host,“ When you give a luncheon or dinner, do not invite your friends, your brothers or sisters, your relatives, or your rich neighbors; if you do, they may invite you back and so you will be repaid.

Awake, north wind, and come, south wind! Blow on my garden, that its fragrance may spread everywhere. Let my beloved come into his garden and taste its choice fruits.I have come into my garden, my sister, my bride; I have gathered my myrrh with my spice. I have eaten my honeycomb and my honey; I have drunk my wine and my milk. Eat, friends, and drink; drink your fill of love.
