即自如望施洗、至其昇天之日、與我同處之人中、遴選一人、共為耶穌復活之見證。』

吾儕均可為之作證。』

如望又為之作證、曰：『予見聖神作鴿狀、自天而降、棲止其上。

眾人述天威。我亦詠堂堂。大慈宜永懷。正直當讚揚。

為斯證者、乃一目擊其事之人、其證真實、渠自知己之所言不妄、俾爾等信之。

法利塞人應曰：『爾自為證、爾證非實。』耶穌曰：『吾雖自證、吾證不虛、蓋予自知從何而來、向何而往；爾曹則不知予之何自何往也。

予當自聖父遣發保慰恩師於爾、保慰恩師非他、即真道之神發自聖父者是。彼至必為予作證、爾等素從予遊、亦當為予作證也。

猶太人聞耶穌蒞至、群趨而集；不第為耶穌、亦欲一見其所起於死中之賴柴魯也。

然予之言此、乃欲使環立於斯之眾庶、篤信父之遣予耳。』

若望乃徵己所親睹者悉為天主之明訓、及耶穌基督之妙證。

人證吾且信之、況天主之證乎？蓋天主已為其聖子作證矣。因是、凡信天主聖子者、自有作證者寓乎其心。（或可譯其心中自有印證待攷）凡不置信於天主之證者、不啻以妄證之罪加諸天主矣。無他、天主為其聖子作證、而彼人竟莫之信也。其證云何？曰：天主已賜吾人以永生；而永生即在其聖子之身。故有聖子者、有永生；無聖子者、無永生。

為弔唁瑪麗而來之猶太人、既睹耶穌所行、多信奉之；然亦有以其事往報法利塞人者。

予既見之、爰證其為天主之聖子。』

猶太人唁瑪麗於室者、見其匆匆趨出、踵之、以為其將詣墓而哭也。

猶太人嘗自耶路撒冷遣司祭與理味數人、來問如望曰：『爾是誰耶？』
