那時，祭司長和民間的長老正聚集在大祭司該亞法的府裡，

其實這句話不是出於他自己，只因那年他是大祭司，上帝藉著他預言耶穌將要替猶太民族死。

自以為有智慧的人，還不如愚人有希望。

亞那和該亞法當大祭司。當時，撒迦利亞的兒子約翰住在曠野，上帝向他說話。

你們不要自欺。如果你們有人自以為在世上有智慧，他應當變成愚人，好成為真正的智者。因為這世上的智慧在上帝的眼中都是愚昧的，正如聖經上說：「上帝使智者中了自己的詭計。」

大祭司亞那，以及該亞法、約翰、亞歷山大和大祭司的許多親族都在場。

當然我們也跟成熟的人談論智慧，不過並非這個世代的智慧，也不是那些在世上當權、將來要衰亡之人的智慧。

哪有官長和法利賽人信祂呢？這群不明白律法的民眾該受咒詛！」

那些善惡不分、黑白顛倒、甜苦不辨的人有禍了！那些自以為聰明、睿智的人有禍了！那些以豪飲稱霸、善於調酒的人有禍了！他們貪贓枉法，坑害無辜。

這個世代所謂的智者、學者、雄辯家在哪裡？上帝豈不是把這世上的智慧都變成愚昧了嗎？
