Everyone has to be on guard against his friend. Don’t trust any brother, for every brother will certainly deceive, and every friend spread slander.

“ Beware of your friends; do not trust anyone in your clan. For every one of them is a deceiver, and every friend a slanderer.

Be on guard against your friends. Do not trust the members of your own family. Every one of them cheats. Every friend tells lies.

Let everyone beware of his neighbor, and put no trust in any brother, for every brother is a deceiver, and every neighbor goes about as a slanderer.

“ Beware of your neighbor! Don’t even trust your brother! For brother takes advantage of brother, and friend slanders friend.

“ Let everyone be on guard against his neighbor, And do not trust any brother; Because every brother utterly betrays, And every neighbor goes about as a slanderer.

“ Everyone take heed to his neighbor, And do not trust any brother; For every brother will utterly supplant, And every neighbor will walk with slanderers.

Everyone must be on his guard around his friends. He must not even trust any of his relatives. For every one of them will find some way to cheat him. And all of his friends will tell lies about him.

Do not rely on a friend; don’t trust in a close companion. Seal your mouth from the woman who lies in your arms.Surely a son considers his father a fool, a daughter opposes her mother, and a daughter-in-law is against her mother-in-law; a man’s enemies are the men of his own household.

All are stubborn rebels spreading slander. They are bronze and iron; all of them are corrupt.

They lie to one another; they speak with flattering lips and deceptive hearts.May the LORD cut off all flattering lips and the tongue that speaks boastfully.

A hateful person disguises himself with his speech and harbors deceit within.When he speaks graciously, don’t believe him, for there are seven detestable things in his heart.

Do not go about spreading slander among your people; do not jeopardize your neighbor’s life; I am the LORD.

The one who conceals hatred has lying lips, and whoever spreads slander is a fool.

“ Your name will no longer be Jacob,” he said.“ It will be Israel because you have struggled with God and with men and have prevailed.”

Even your brothers— your own father’s family— even they were treacherous to you; even they have cried out loudly after you. Do not have confidence in them, though they speak well of you.

But he replied,“ Your brother came deceitfully and took your blessing.”So he said,“ Isn’t he rightly named Jacob? For he has cheated me twice now. He took my birthright, and look, now he has taken my blessing.” Then he asked,“ Haven’t you saved a blessing for me?”

who does not slander with his tongue, who does not harm his friend or discredit his neighbor,

A person giving false testimony against his neighbor is like a club, a sword, or a sharp arrow.

Don’t assume that I came to bring peace on the earth. I did not come to bring peace, but a sword.For I came to turn a man against his father, a daughter against her mother, a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law;

Beware of them, because they will hand you over to local courts and flog you in their synagogues.

This means one must not transgress against and take advantage of a brother or sister in this manner, because the Lord is an avenger of all these offenses, as we also previously told and warned you.

You will even be betrayed by parents, brothers, relatives, and friends. They will kill some of you.

Therefore, rid yourselves of all malice, all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and all slander.Like newborn infants, desire the pure milk of the word, so that by it you may grow up into your salvation,

a lying witness who gives false testimony, and one who stirs up trouble among brothers.

The LORD hates six things; in fact, seven are detestable to him:

destruction is inside it; oppression and deceit never leave its marketplace.Now it is not an enemy who insults me— otherwise I could bear it; it is not a foe who rises up against me— otherwise I could hide from him.

There are men within you who slander in order to shed blood. People who live in you eat at the mountain shrines; they commit depraved acts within you.

“ Brother will betray brother to death, and a father his child. Children will rise up against parents and have them put to death.
