“ They make ready their tongue like a bow, to shoot lies; it is not by truth that they triumph in the land. They go from one sin to another; they do not acknowledge me,” declares the Lord.

“ They get ready to use their tongues like bows,” announces the Lord.“ Their mouths shoot out lies like arrows. They tell lies to gain power in the land. They go from one sin to another. They do not pay any attention to me.

They bend their tongue like a bow; falsehood and not truth has grown strong in the land; for they proceed from evil to evil, and they do not know me, declares the Lord.

“ My people bend their tongues like bows to shoot out lies. They refuse to stand up for the truth. They only go from bad to worse. They do not know me,” says the Lord.

The LORD says,“ These people are like soldiers who have readied their bows. Their tongues are always ready to shoot out lies. They have become powerful in the land, but they have not done so by honest means. Indeed, they do one evil thing after another and do not pay attention to me.

“ They bend their tongue, as their bow, for falsehood. They have grown strong in the land, but not for truth; for they proceed from evil to evil, and they don’t know me,” says Yahweh.

Their tongue[ is as] an arrow shot out; it speaketh deceit:[ one] speaketh peaceably to his neighbour with his mouth, but in heart he layeth his wait.

And also all that generation were gathered unto their fathers: and there arose another generation after them, which knew not the LORD, nor yet the works which he had done for Israel.

For my people[ is] foolish, they have not known me; they[ are] sottish children, and they have none understanding: they[ are] wise to do evil, but to do good they have no knowledge.

In transgressing and lying against the LORD, and departing away from our God, speaking oppression and revolt, conceiving and uttering from the heart words of falsehood.And judgment is turned away backward, and justice standeth afar off: for truth is fallen in the street, and equity cannot enter.Yea, truth faileth; and he[ that] departeth from evil maketh himself a prey: and the LORD saw[ it], and it displeased him that[ there was] no judgment.

Their throat[ is] an open sepulchre; with their tongues they have used deceit; the poison of asps[ is] under their lips:

Now the sons of Eli[ were] sons of Belial; they knew not the LORD.

Fear ye not therefore, ye are of more value than many sparrows.Whosoever therefore shall confess me before men, him will I confess also before my Father which is in heaven.But whosoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my Father which is in heaven.

Deliver my soul, O LORD, from lying lips,[ and] from a deceitful tongue.What shall be given unto thee? or what shall be done unto thee, thou false tongue?Sharp arrows of the mighty, with coals of juniper.

Thy tongue deviseth mischiefs; like a sharp razor, working deceitfully.Thou lovest evil more than good;[ and] lying rather than to speak righteousness. Selah.Thou lovest all devouring words, O[ thou] deceitful tongue.

Jesus answered, If I honour myself, my honour is nothing: it is my Father that honoureth me; of whom ye say, that he is your God:Yet ye have not known him; but I know him: and if I should say, I know him not, I shall be a liar like unto you: but I know him, and keep his saying.

Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort[ you] that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints.

Whosoever therefore shall be ashamed of me and of my words in this adulterous and sinful generation; of him also shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he cometh in the glory of his Father with the holy angels.

And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death.

And in nothing terrified by your adversaries: which is to them an evident token of perdition, but to you of salvation, and that of God.

In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.For we preach not ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord; and ourselves your servants for Jesus’ sake.For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to[ give] the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.

But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived.

And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.

And they will deceive every one his neighbour, and will not speak the truth: they have taught their tongue to speak lies,[ and] weary themselves to commit iniquity.

And they shall teach no more every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the LORD: for they shall all know me, from the least of them unto the greatest of them, saith the LORD: for I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more.

Who whet their tongue like a sword,[ and] bend[ their bows to shoot] their arrows,[ even] bitter words:That they may shoot in secret at the perfect: suddenly do they shoot at him, and fear not.

That they may do evil with both hands earnestly, the prince asketh, and the judge[ asketh] for a reward; and the great[ man], he uttereth his mischievous desire: so they wrap it up.The best of them[ is] as a brier: the most upright[ is sharper] than a thorn hedge: the day of thy watchmen[ and] thy visitation cometh; now shall be their perplexity.Trust ye not in a friend, put ye not confidence in a guide: keep the doors of thy mouth from her that lieth in thy bosom.

For your hands are defiled with blood, and your fingers with iniquity; your lips have spoken lies, your tongue hath muttered perverseness.None calleth for justice, nor[ any] pleadeth for truth: they trust in vanity, and speak lies; they conceive mischief, and bring forth iniquity.They hatch cockatrice’ eggs, and weave the spider’s web: he that eateth of their eggs dieth, and that which is crushed breaketh out into a viper.

He judged the cause of the poor and needy; then[ it was] well[ with him: was] not this to know me? saith the LORD.
