For when I brought your ancestors out of Egypt and spoke to them, I did not just give them commands about burnt offerings and sacrifices,

我所悅者、乃仁義、並非祭祀、識天主之道、勝於火焚祭、識天主之道勝於火焚祭或作識天主勝於獻火焚祭

撒母耳曰、主豈悅火焚祭平安祭、不悅人聽從主命乎、聽命勝於獻祭、順從勝於牡羊脂、

經云、我欲矜恤、不欲祭祀、此言何意、爾且往學之、蓋我來、非招義人、乃招罪人悔改、有原文古抄本無悔改二字○

祭祀供獻、主不喜悅、主已啟我耳、火焚祭罪祭、非主所欲、

主不欲祭物、欲則我必獻之、火焚祭亦非主喜悅、主所欲之祭、在乎憂傷痛悔、憂傷痛悔之心、主必不輕視、

我不因爾未曾獻祭譴責爾、爾所獻之火焚祭、常在我前、我不從爾家取牡牛、亦不從爾牢取牡羊、因林中之百獸屬我、千山之牲畜亦屬我、山上之飛禽、皆我所知、曠野之走獸、亦皆屬我、我如饑餓、無庸告爾、因世間與盈於世間者、皆屬於我、我豈食牡牛之肉乎、我豈飲牡羊之血乎、當以感謝天主為祭、在至上主前、酬爾所許之願、爾在患難時禱告我、我必救爾、爾當尊奉我、天主向惡人曰、爾為何傳述我之律法、口講我之盟約、其實爾厭惡我之訓誨、將我之言語、棄置於後、

且盡心盡性盡意盡力愛之、又愛人如己、勝於一切火焚之祭、及諸祭祀、
