Do not go out to the fields or walk on the roads, for the enemy has a sword, and there is terror on every side.

All around sudden terrors frighten him, And harass him at every step.

Why are we sitting still? Assemble yourselves, and let’s go into the fortified cities And perish there, For the Lord our God has doomed us And given us poisoned water to drink, Because we have sinned against the Lord.

Declare in Judah and proclaim in Jerusalem, and say,“ Blow the trumpet in the land; Cry aloud and say,‘ Assemble, and let’s go Into the fortified cities.’

Then on the next day, when Pashhur released Jeremiah from the stocks, Jeremiah said to him,“ Pashhur is not the name the Lord has called you, but rather Magor missabib.For this is what the Lord says:‘ Behold, I am going to make you a horror to yourself and to all your friends; and while your eyes look on, they will fall by the sword of their enemies. So I will hand all Judah over to the king of Babylon, and he will take them away as exiles to Babylon and will kill them with the sword.

“ In the days of Shamgar the son of Anath, In the days of Jael, the roads were deserted, And travelers went by roundabout ways.The peasantry came to an end, they came to an end in Israel, Until I, Deborah, arose, Until I arose, a mother in Israel.

Then I said,“ Oh, Lord God! Surely You have utterly deceived this people and Jerusalem, saying,‘ You will have peace’; yet a sword touches the throat.”

In those times there was no peace for him who went out or him who came in, because many disturbances afflicted all the inhabitants of the lands.

For the days will come upon you when your enemies will put up a barricade against you, and surround you and hem you in on every side,

But if you refuse and rebel, You will be devoured by the sword.” For the mouth of the Lord has spoken.
