We have heard reports about them, and our hands hang limp. Anguish has gripped us, pain like that of a woman in labor.

耶利米曰、我聞吹角戰鬥之聲、我心戚戚、中懷不安、不禁哀鳴。城邑破於陸續、帷帳毀於俄傾、遍地荒蕪。我見旌纛、我聞角音、何時可止。

爾素尊之為君長、及遭其難、尚有何詞、豈非劬勞、若婦臨產。

行潦汎濫、橫溢四境、斯難頻至、危在旦夕、爾眾盡為所淹、聞風而驚駭不已。

男子產育、未之有也、今見男子手捧腹、色乍青、若將產之婦、誠何故與。

巴比倫人曰、我罹患難、憂心戚戚、劬勞如臨產之婦、恐懼觳觫、不忍見聞、

我聞是事、中懷畏懼、唇齒震動、骨骸若朽、戰慄不已、敵雖至此、加我以難、我尚納慰、

居利巴嫩人巢於柏香木、爾既臨難、若婦劬勞、豈不哀慘。

人自謂平康安固、而禍突至、猶妊婦劬勞、其人不得免、

惟爾人子、歔欷太息、至於斷腸、令人目睹。如彼問爾、何為太息、必曰、因風聞將來之事、眾人喪膽、手疲膝倦、懦弱如水、禍患迫至、主耶和華已言之矣。

立旌斾遙指郇岡、使人逃避於彼、毋稍遲延、我降大禍、來自北方、盡遭其毀。殘賊列邦者、猶獅出林而至、彼出其所、必使爾地荒蕪、城邑傾圮、無人居處。爾當衣麻哀哭、蓋我怒正盛、莫能遏止。耶和華又曰、當是時、國王牧伯喪膽、祭司先知駭愕。

彼悚然惶遽、如將娩之婦、

爾所懼之災害、迫切之患難、突如其來、如颶風之倏至。斯時籲我、而我弗聽、竭力求恩、而不可得。

爾今何為號呼、若婦將產、艱難勞苦、爾中豈無王公、爾之謀臣、豈盡殞亡、郇邑之民、果為勞苦、若婦臨產、蓋爾將出邑居野、至於巴比倫、在彼我耶和華將救爾出於敵手、
